CHAMPIONS WESTERN DAY HOMECOMING Students’ Note of Appreciation to Mr. Bennett Dear Mr. Bennett, Thank you for the interest and guidance you gave to each of us who attended Hicks High School during your years as principal. We, who have been privileged to have you as teacher and principal, know it has not been the favorable position of a particular planet but YOU who made us strive for successful scholastic and extracurricular achievements. Too, we know that any success we shall receive as adults will be realized through perseverance, teamwork, and courage - qualities of char- acter we learned from you. Also we thank you for encouraging each of us to face new experiences and new worlds with an open and eager mind; we promise to keep that thought in mind as we enter our new school term and later the adult world. To the many comments that have been made about your superior ability as a teacher and princi- pal, may we add our comment: your retirement is a loss to the school, to the community, and to the field of education. This book will serve on many occasions to remind and refresh your memory of these years. I take this opportunity to salute the faculty and student body for a job well done; at the same time I challenge you to devote even more of your energy to the job at hand. You, today as a young citizen of this great country. must learn all that is possible in your short years as a student at Hicks High School to better prepare you to cope with the problems you will face on entering college or the work force of your country. I want to compliment the principal and the teachers for their superior efforts in both aca- demic and extracurricular activities to assure your better preparation for the many difficult tasks that lie ahead. Let me challenge each of you to always seek spiritual guidance in every effort undertaken and to remember the principles upon which this great country was founded and without which it cannot survive. Let me also challenge you to join with me in keeping Hicks High School one of the finest facilities in the state. I wish to compliment the staff and the sponsors for their contributions in compiling and editing this fine yearbook and to personally extend my warmest regards to each student enrolled. Margaret maintained a B average for four years of high school and was active in FHA, 4-H Club, and Jr. Civitan. Margaret Chandler 54 Mr. Hicks High School Because of his scholarship, his school spirit, and his outstanding work in extracurricular activities, the HHS students selected Joe as Mr. HHS. Joe maintained a B average for four years of high school and was active in 4- H Club, 1A Club, and Junior Civitan. Also Joe was a superior business manager and loyal staff member of the PIRATE. In addition to her crown, Jackie received a wrist watch from Lion James Jeter, chairman of the 1972 contest and an arm bouquet of red roses from Don Holt, president of the Leesville Lions Club. Jackie is the first HHS Rodeo Queen to win the Leesville Lions Club Rodeo Queen contest.
