Foreword “It takes a heap o’ livin’ to make a home.” - Edgar A. Guest As we read the many reviews of progress made in the world in this last decade, we began to review the progress made in our immediate world - the Hicks High School. We soon realized that it was impossible for us to record the total heap o’ people and activities responsible for the progress made from one small brick building located on a lonely hill at Hicks, Louisiana, less than two decades ago into four brick buildings filled with students and activities. Next, we realized that even one decade of people was one heap o’ people and activities to record; therefore, we decided it would be easy to record the activities of the 1969-1970 school ses- sion. Alas, as all yearbook staffs in the past have discovered, we too have discovered it is impossible to record each contribution made by our school patrons, administration, faculty, and students. Since we have learned that it takes a heap o’ people and a heap o’ activities to make a school, now we only can hope that the pictures and com- ments made in this book will serve as a reminder of people and activities that made the 1969-1970 school session of the Hicks High School a special year for each of you. Dedication The yearbook staff thinks that the selection of the person to whom to dedicate the yearbook must reflect the opinion of the entire school. The staff also thinks that the person selected must possess the moral qualities stressed in Hicks High School as the ideal qualities for each student to attain. Because he has gained the respect and love of each faculty member and student; because he has contributed generously of his off-duty time to help create a better school; and because he has cheerfully and continuously shown us the qualities of leadership, sportsmanship, and great ability that we all desire to attain, we, the Pirate staff of 1970, dedicate this book to COACH DALE HARD- WICK.
