Letter From Mr. Bennett w. L BENNETT. JR. Principal Much progress has been made during the sixties; and as we move into the new decade, let us take with us those good things which will be of assistance» us in the seventies. In the past decade, we have had four presi- dents of the United States, we luve put men on the moon, our nation has been engaged in a war, and our nation has grown to over 200,000000 people. I know of no other period in American history in which people have had to face the problems as did the people of the sixties in this - the greatest nation on earth. With these thoughts in mind, I, as your principal, want to'take this opportunity to challenge you, the stu- dents of Hicks High School, to strive toward a higher degree of excellence in the seventies and to always insist on the best - the best education, the best government, and the highest standard of living for yourself and your family. The future of our community, our state, and our nation is in your hands. I want to compliment the sponsor and the staff on the fine job of assembling this fine annual, the 1970 edition of the Pirate. Sincerely, W. L BENNETT, JR. Principal

From Our School Board Member As the “Curtain of Time” closes the 1969-1970 school year, you students have left behind a mark of distinction iden- tifying the characteristics of our school and community. You have displayed a combination of interested people working to- gether. Interested parents, teachers, and students working to- gether in a free atomosphere will develop citizens who will be able to arrive at decisions wisely and to enjoy the blessings of the American way of life. I want to commend the annual staff, the sponsor, and each person who contributed in any way to this unique yearbook. My sincere wishes are for continued success in the years ahead. MRS. J. C. TROTTI School Board Member, Ward 8
