THE 1969 PIRATE Hicks High School Hicks, Louisiana Voi. xm Editor BILL ALLEN Assistant Editor WApEljUyROWfjR Business Manager SHARON KELLEY Dedication Robert Wayne Tolbert was a member of the class of 1969, a varsity basketball player, and a member of the I. A. and 4-H Clubs. He transferred from Oak Hill High School in 1967 and became well-liked and an asset to the student body. He shall long be remembered for his joy of life, determination, and ambition as a student at Hicks High School. Therefore the 1969 PIRATE is dedi- cated to the memory of Robert Wayne Tolbert. Foreword In addition to traditional three R’s (readin1, 'ritin’, and ’rithmetic), the Hicks High School curriculum is planned so as to include the three R’s of citizenship - Rights, Responsibility, and Respect. The yearbook staff, aware of the responsibility of presenting a true picture of life at Hicks High School, has attempted through pictures and captions to show the citizens of tomorrow. ble of Contents Administration Faculty Seniors Juniors Sophomores Freshmen Elementary Favorites Athletics Organizations Activities Advertisers During Dental Health Week, Dr. Hancock shows Fourth Graders the proper way to brush teeth. fi Administration “Ours is the only country deliberately founded on a good idea.” John Gunther Superintendent’s Message CURTIS BRADSHAW Superintendent Vernon Parish Schools Friends: You are to be congratulated on this excellent publication. The Pirate; we find a mark of distinction which identifies the characteris- tics of our school and community. The attitude of, Anything less than maximum effort is unsatisfactory,” is certainly one which compliments the students as well as the parents of our community. Evidence of this is also expressed by the recognition gained by our students in receiving awards at parish, district, and state, as well as at the national level. I want to commend the staff and sponsor on the development of an excellent yearbook which is attractive and informative. This yearbook reflects the devotion to duty by the entire annual staff which again compliments our students. W. L. BENNETT, JR.
