Upon the decision to dedicate the yearbook to a person who reflected the educational standards of our school, the staff unanimously decided to dedicate the 1968 Pirate to Mrs. Thelma Smith. In the six years Mrs. Smith has taught civics, history, and English in our school, she has always displayed the highest standards in teaching. In the future as we students reflect upon the teachers from whom we learned the most, we feel the first name mentioned will be Mrs. Smith. We feel that both teachers and students share our appreciation of Mrs. Smith and our sentiment in this dedi- cation. 1968 Pirate Dedicated to Mrs. Thelma Smith

Our Principal Reflects Our annual, the Pirate, reflects the pulse of our school community. In this publication we find those qualities which are indicative of a community which is genuinely interested in making our school and our com- munity the best to be found anywhere. For this attitude, you--the student body and the people of our community —are to be congratulated. As we turn the pages, we find those phases of school activities which strive to meet the challenges of a complex society. The academic program, the music program, the clubs, the athletic program, the vocational program, the student activity programs, as well as others, indicate students are participating extensively in those activities which should make them better prepared to take their places as citizens. The fine staff and sponsor are to be congratulated on this yearbook, as it represents many hours devoted to planning and working to make it an outstanding book. W. L. BENNETT, JR. Principal
