Superintendent Bradshaw CURTIS BRADSHAW Superintendent Vemon Parish Schools Friends: I am sure that if any of you had the opportunity to choose the time you would live in, you could not have selected a more exciting period than we are in now. A very few years ago none of us dreamed that man would circle the earth in 90 minutes, prevent polio, make a closeup pictorial record of the moon and Mars, send television pictures through the air or alter the educational processes. We know it is necessary that we change education to keep abreast of the times and meet the demands of our modern society. This yearbook highlights some of the ch ges and gives you, the student, a keepsake of the most endearing period of your life. I want to commend the students and faculty for your excellent work in developing this attractive and informative annual. It will become more valuable to you in the years ahead. I wish to extend warmest personal regards to each person represented in this yearbook. Sincerely, Curtis Bradshaw Superintendent Vernon Parish Schools

Our Principal Reflects Our annual, the Pirate, reflects the pulse of our school community. In this publication we find those qualities which are indicative of a community which is genuinely interested in making our school and our com- munity the best to be found anywhere. For this attitude, you--the student body and the people of our community —are to be congratulated. As we turn the pages, we find those phases of school activities which strive to meet the challenges of a complex society. The academic program, the music program, the clubs, the athletic program, the vocational program, the student activity programs, as well as others, indicate students are participating extensively in those activities which should make them better prepared to take their places as citizens. The fine staff and sponsor are to be congratulated on this yearbook, as it represents many hours devoted to planning and working to make it an outstanding book. W. L. BENNETT, JR. Principal

Reflections of Schoolboard Member MRS. J. C. TROTTI School Board Member Ward Eight This 1968 Pirate is a pictorial example of the achievements made by the faculty and students of Hicks High School through cooperation for a successful school program during the past school year. There are things in these pages that cannot be seen or written. Some faces have changed against an un- changing background; but in this yearbook, you will find the spirit and essence of Hicks High School created by all who have been here and left a part of themselves with us. For the Vernon Parish School Board, I thank you for your presentation. I know it shows in a superlative way the pattern of living and learning that is daily displayed by you at Hicks High School. May God prosper you in all your endeavors and strenghten you in perseverance. MRS. J. C. TROTTI School Board Member Ward 8
