DEDICATION It is an essential factor for every high school student to have a guiding hand who will pilot him successfully through the troubled seas of adolescence. The members of the graduating class of 1949 have been indeed fortunate in obtaining this guidance. The long list of achievements which have been displayed, not only in high school, but in grade school as well, is marked with the toil of our parentage. To the spirit of Time and to Our Parents, Whose sympathy and understanding, and whose steady expectation of our best, makes them stand forth in our minds as the premier exponents of that spirit, We the Seniors of 1949, humbly dedicate this yearbook.

FOREWORD HICORIA is a book for your lighter moments, for those times when you want to relax and lose yourself in the memories of Time. In its memorious collection you will meet again and again in the years to come some of your old friends who were an integral part of Hickory High School. The book represents months of patient, indus- trious work by the Seniors of 1949. A representation that will share with the reader the Warmth and gaiety of human experience. In the course of Time, the pictures and stories emcompassed herein, Will not become a blunt memory of the past, but will be revitalized by the newlyweds down the street, the teen-agers like you, or your neighbors. HICGRIA is planned for your enjoyment and that of your family of friends. We know that it will furnish many hours of fine entertainment in the years ahead.
