Pleasant Township Hickory, Pa. 1949 FOREWORD HICORIA is a book for your lighter moments, for those times when you want to relax and lose yourself in the memories of Time. In its memorious collection you will meet again and again in the years to come some of your old friends who were an integral part of Hickory High School. The book represents months of patient, indus- trious work by the Seniors of 1949. A representation that will share with the reader the Warmth and gaiety of human experience. In the course of Time, the pictures and stories emcompassed herein, Will not become a blunt memory of the past, but will be revitalized by the newlyweds down the street, the teen-agers like you, or your neighbors. HICGRIA is planned for your enjoyment and that of your family of friends. We know that it will furnish many hours of fine entertainment in the years ahead. We hope that it will become one of your favorite books. The Staff. When time who steals our years away Shall steal our pleasures too, The mem'ry of the past will stay And half our joys renew. -Moore DEDICATION It is an essential factor for every high school student to have a guiding hand who will pilot him successfully through the troubled seas of adolescence. The members of the graduating class of 1949 have been indeed fortunate in obtaining this guidance. The long list of achievements which have been displayed, not only in high school, but in grade school as well, is marked with the toil of our parentage. To the spirit of Time and to Our Parents, Whose sympathy and understanding, and whose steady expectation of our best, makes them stand forth in our minds as the premier exponents of that spirit, We the Seniors of 1949, humbly dedicate this yearbook. ALMA MATER In thy name We lift our voices While the echoes ring. Every 1.oya1 heart rejoices As thy praise We sing. Hickory, our Alma Mater, Glory rest on thee. Hail to thee, our Alma Mater Hail to Hickory. 4 MRS. A 9 O STUDENT ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION The Student Athletic Association under the guidance of Mr. Baker, Mr. Meehan, and Mr. Seitz has been very active this year. During football, basket- ball, and baseball season, they take care of various business details that must be adjusted before any game can be played. Arrangements for referees, sign printing, advertising, ticket printing, ticket sellihg, score keepers, the public address system. All become a part of every game. Several dances were held this year under the auspices of the SAA. Our smooth-running athletic program this year was the direct concern of: Dorothy White, treasurer: Bill Carter: Lucian Iohnson, Vice President: Ralph Findling, President: Ann Brindak, Secretary. SENIOR CHEERLEADERS Alle-genee-genac-genac! Yea Hickory-Fight! Fight! Fight! Alle-genee-qenac-genac! Let's go Hickory These are some of the chants of our mistresses of cheer. Throughout the year, the cheerleaders accomplished much in the way of spreading and keeping school spirit and pep. To these energetic ladies we extend a hand of thanks for their support of athletics. Early in the F all, the' regular election of the wearers of White and Green, was held. It was regretful that only a select few oi the contestants could be chosen to-represent their Alma Mater. Marjorie White, Donna Bowen, and Geraldine Kler were elected to represent the Iunior Class and till positions vacated by last y'ear's graduating Seniors. They join Ann Brindak, Shirley Caldwell, and Dorothy White, thus making up the Senior Cheerleaders. Phyllis Beaumariage, Eileen Acheson, Nancy Gema, Norma Gema, Mary Lou Blackburn, and Sue Blackburn, Robert Smith, and Alice Collett were elected from among the Freshman contestants. They join Dolores Vermeulen, Ruth Huber, Doris Iean Campbell, and Marilyn Smith from the Sophomore Class. CHEERLEADERS 31 -o-qw-Y w --my ,-no y-wif .W 1 FOOTBALL The football team, coached by Mr. Meehan and Assistant Coach Mr. Seitz. encountered a heavy football schedule this year. Although often leading, the team never quite held to the final whistle. Several players from last year were on the team again this year. Bill Allshouse was elected Captain and did his best throughout the season to keep his team in good spirits. In their fourth game, the team scored an upset by tying previously unbeaten and untied Robinson Township. Here are those who came to Hickory High School from Primrose. Can you recognize Clara Bartolich, Robert Holmes, Robert Barton? Since this picture was taken in front of Hickory High School, many of the present day Seniors are still with us. Some have been lost along the wayside: others dispersed to distant places. Graduating this year are Dorothy White, Ann Brindak, Ruth White, Ralph Findling, lean Frye, Shirley Caldwell, Peggy Moore, Ralph Dagnana, Richard Moore, and Rebecca Crowley. Some people can remember names: some people can remember faces. Time does a particular task to change appearances and it has on this group of youngsters who were in first grade at Hickory back in 1937-1938. We have seen many of these tots, tottering through the halls of the Alma Mater this year as Seniors. Do you remember names or faces? In the picture are such personalities as Ralph Dagnana, Ann Brindak, Ruth White, Ellen Pattison, Dorothy White, Dale Cowden, Richard Moore.
