Text from Pages 1 - 120 of the 1965 volume:

Have You Ever Walked Between the Columns of a Southern Mansion and Gazed Upon the Fields of a Great Planta- tion? In Hickory Flat, Our School, a Rep- lica of Southern TRADITION, HISTO- RY, CHARM, and HOSPITALITY, Proudly Presents Rebel Spirit and South- ern Beauty in The Hickory Nutt of 1965. TRADITION ADMINISTRATION HIGH SCHOOL FACULTY GYMNASIUM From across the baseball field the gymnasium is visible. Besides serving as a sports center and recre- ation area, the FFA and FHA Banquet is held here each year. ANNEX The addition to our building was a much need ed one. Included in this new unit is the Home- making Department, the Cafeteria, the Music room, and the Teachers’ Lounge. THE FOCUS HF BUILDING The view of Hickory Flat School wil 1 bring back memories to the minds of many former students and CAMERA ES ON HS SCIENCE BUILDING From the northeast side, a view of the Sci- ence building is featured. All the science classes and some of the Junior High classes are held in this building. AGRICULTURE BUILDING Located on the north- east corner of our campus is the Ag building, furnish- ing the Agriculture students with an up-to-date shop and a lecture room. the many patrons of our school. During 1960-61 the new addition to our school was built. SPIRIT OF THE OLD SOUTH The days of the Old South are gone but we will long remember them. In our minds we still picture the large plantations, the darkies singing as they picked cotton in the huge fields and as they sat around the fires at night. We can still see the grand balls they once held; the girls in their gowns and the boys in frock coats. We see the moon rising over the trees, shining on a sleeping plantation. The workers are resting, preparing for their next day's work. We the 1965 HICKORY NUTT STAFF salute you, THE SPIRIT OF THE OLD SOUTH, Sammy watching as work is done. THESE BE The Homemaking girls create new hairstyles. AND A TRAD1 AT OUR The Senior girls celebrate Deborah's birthday. THINGS GIN The less serious side of FHA Week. END TIONAL DA Y SCHOOL The last bell of the day! TRADITION Teachers are a tradition in any school. The last minute chats at the end of the school day and then the trip home with their shoes kicked off are a welcome time to any teacher. The faculty of any school is to be admired for their stamina during the school year. COUNTY BOARD MR. J. D. BENNETT County Superintendent These people are more directly con- cerned with the actual operation of the school itself. They plan, discuss, and work out problems occurring during the school year. No one could say that Shelby, Charlotte, Brenda, and Joy, the featured beau- ties of our Hickory Nutt, were not pleasing to others. Certainly this was evident when the judges chose them as alternates to the Annual Queen this year. However, true beauty and chai;m is not shown in a person’s out- ward appearance, but also is a glow that comes from within. MR. AN HICKO Skill and confidence, easy to know, friendly, care- free, vivacious . . . These are the things that describe Sammie and won for him the title of MR. HICKORY FLAT.
