4 WE SALUTE OUR TOWN The 1964 School Annual salutes OUR TOWN. Hickory Flat, to us, means many things. It means Home, and wherever we may be in the years ahead, we will remember it, with its abun- dance of churches, its factory, its stores, its bank, and its quiet streets and lovely homes. OUR TOWN means all the people in it. It means their friendliness, their thoughtfulness, their kind- ness, their generosity, their support. It means the place where many of us were born, and where some of our loved ones are buried. It means the place our parents chose as the possible one for the rearing of their families. OUR TOWN means progress. Not only do we have our older busi- nesses, but new ones along the highway have added to the prosperity of us all. To Hickory Flat, OUR TOWN, in this salute we offer our appreciation and our thanks for the things you mean to us.

MIND The minds of first grade students are imma- ture and undisciplined. As school years pass, the mind grows and grasps for fundamentals of living. Teachers represent the ultimate in mental growth in schools. It is to them the minds of children are given as a vital trust. And it is only in the meeting of teachers' minds and pupil's minds That this trust can be fulfilled. The Mind is the thinking part of the school. The Teachers are the trustees of the minds.
