1960 The | Hickory Presented By THE SENIOR CLASS OF 1960 HICKORY FLAT HIGH SCHOOL Hickory Flat, Mississippi PrincipaFs Messape To the Senior Class: It has been a real pleasure to watch this grad- uating class of 1960 come through four years of high school work to end a career at Hickory Flat High School. Many of you have made valuable contri- butions to your class and to your school, and we are proud of you. It is with mixed emotions that 1 write this mes- sage to you. I am sad because I know we are going to miss every one of you, and I am glad because I feel that you are capable of going out into the world and performing effectively whatever you set out to do. I would like for each senior to know that we are counting on you to do your best at all times. If you will do so, you need have no fear of the future, be- cause it will be bright. I wish for each of you a long, happy, and suc- cessful life. Class Will We the Senior Class of Hickory Flat High School, being of sound mind and body, do hereby make, publish, and declare this to be our last Will and Testament, hereby revoking any will or wills heretofore made by us: To our Superintendent we leave all our thanks to him and his faculty for all the patience they have had with us, and for all the troubles they have had teaching us to even read and write. To Mr. Gadd we leave all our waste paper and all other articles wich need discard- ing. To the Junior Class we leave all the remaining money in our treasury, if there be any, and all our outstanding debts. We also leave all our laughs and giggles, all our unchewed gum, and all our basketball scores, and all other articles of no value what- soever. Most of all, we leave them the concession stand. To the Sophomores we leave all our old answer books, all of our extra brains, and old papers on which we made good grades. We hear you might need them. To the Freshman Class we leave our good will and ability to go through four years of high school and live through it. We also leave them the ability to say the wrong thing at the right time or the right thing at the wrong time. How this is done we can't figure out. To Buford Howell, Aaron Goolsby leaves his ability to charm all the girls. You have a nice heritage, Buford. Stanley Moorehead leaves his ability to fight all the girls off to Don Wilson, be- cause we think he'll need it. Larry Goolsby leaves the Sophomore girls to Jerry Moffitt, as bad as he hates to! Shirley Shelton leaves her ability to make all the girls mad to Sandra Goode. William R. Minor leaves his position as guard on second team to Ronnie Hudspeth. Terry Goode leaves his much-treasured joke book and hearty laughs to Bobbie Kirk. Ray Cooke leaves his hot rod cars to anyone who can afford to run one. Wayne Wilkerson leaves his long wavy hair to Larry Robbins. Leroy Derrick leaves all his scientific boxing terms to Larry Mason. They may come in handy some day. Shirley Hunter leaves her back seat on the school bus to Gloria Whiteside. Lottie Walker leaves her flirty ways to Ann Crump. Johnnie Gadd leaves her quiet way and manner to Patricia Taylor. Johnny Vanzant doesn't leave anything. He needs all he has, and all donations will be appreciated. Devon Yeager leaves his ability to elbow in a ballgame, and get by with it, to Warner Bradford. Jerry Autry leaves all his broken bones to Clinton Mills, just in case he needs them. Jim Vandiver leaves his ability to fight with Janice and Louise and stay on the good side of them, to Jimmy Lee Shoffner. Class Prophecy With tender smiles and loving hearts we see the Senior Class of 1960 back in old Hickory Flat, at a class reunion during a ball game in the gymnasium. Though ten years have passed, and many important schedules were interrupted, all the members managed to attend the reunion. First of all we see (and hear) W. R. Minor, a sportswear salesman for Sears, Roe- buck, and Co. He is loudly telling Devon Yeager of the time that Hickory Flat de- feated Potts Camp back in '60. Devon, who is head coach at Ole Miss, would like to add a word or two, but William R. doesn't give him a chance. Mrs. Yeager, the former Shirley Hunter, is unable to speak because of the many clutching hands around her. She and Devon were married years ago. Behind them is Wayne Wilkerson, who has risen to fame as America's most eligible bachelor. He is a talent scout for Hollywood's leading film industry. Beside him is Shirley Shelton, who was Miss America in 1962. We are very happy to see that she is not falling for Wayne's promises and pleadings. Beyond this couple is Johnnie Grace Gadd, the great artist. She is explaining to Lottie Walker, the old maid schoolteacher, how the Art Galleries of Paris look. Miss Gadd recently sold her great masterpiece, The Defeat of Potts Camp for $700, 000 to her class sponsors, Mrs. Ray and Miss Dixon. It has been rumored that Coach Koon has made them an offer for the great painting. Next we see a group of young men, many of whom need no introduction. Larry Goolsby and his cousin Aaron are the most famous actors in Hollywood. Stanley Moore- head and Jerry Autry, the Congressmen, are heatedly trying to convince the Goolsby boys that more money can be made in politics than in the movies. Leroy Derrick, the boxing champion, seems to agree, but doesn't have a chance to say so. Ray Cooke, Dior's leading fashion designer, is sitting quietly beside his wife, who is his star model. Near them are Terry Goode, the stock car race producer, and his best driver, Johnny Vanzant. With them is Jim Vandiver, the great mathematician, who invented the motor of Johnny's car. As the final buzzer sounds and the crowd moves toward the door, we sadly realize that the ball game is over, but the memories that it created will linger on and on. - The Junior Class Senior Class Flower Red Rose Senior Colors Red and White Senior Class Motto Any job. be it large or small, Do it v ell, or not at all.
