Cossitt Annual staff, who have worked diligently and well to produce a fine yearbook. It is my sincere hope that each young person who attends this high school will do the best work possible, and make his high school ed- ucation really count. The only way to get to a position where you can serve best is to pre- pare yourself well. Business, industry, and professions are interested in boys and girls who have completed their high school education in a creditable manner. Addison said, What sculpture is to a block of marble, education is to the human soul. May you achieve your goal through application of your abilities and talents as you end your high school career. Sincerely, Iiii!i!i!i!i!i!i!i!i!i!i!i DEDICATION To our helpful and understanding teachers, who have rendered every service possible to uphold the spirit of our school, who have worked long and hard for our educational improvement, who have encouraged and guided us through our senior year with much patience and under- standing; and to Mr. Gadd, because without his service we could not operate, we, the Senior Class of 1959, dedicate this edition of THE HICKORY NUTT to The High School Teachers Mr. Gadd SOLOIST Patricia Gray Mrs. Brewer, Accompanist TUNtf'J'- cl m BATON TWIRLERS Gloria Whiteside Shirley Williams Sandra Goode Peggy Massengill TALENT DUO Barbara Ayres Jan Hunsucker F. SENIOR CLASS PROPHECY Our roving reporter will now visit the reunion of the Senior Class of 1959. The members of the class have returned to the earth for their reunion, and the talk seems to be centered around what each has done on the moon. First we hear about Mr. Johnny Courson, who has become a successful sheep raiser on the moon. He is talking with Billy Crawford, who is an engineer em- ployed in digging canals on the moon, and who is also starting a colony on Venus. In this group we also find that great orator, Mr. Darrell Dickerson. Moving about the room, our roving reporter talks to Mr. Tommy Edwards, who has the well-known nightclub on the moon, The Silver Hiccup. It is called this because for each hiccup you have paid dearly. Approaching us is one of the best show men on the moon, that great politician, Mr. Johnny Elliott. Now let's go over and visit this man leisurely reclining in bed. He is none other than the noted car racer, Frank Gadd. Visiting with his brother is Walter Gadd, who has been doing a rushing business in his beauty parlor on the moon. Had it not been for the next man, none of this group would have ever made the trip to the moon and back to earth. He is that great space pilot, William Harris. Close by, Charles Jackson and Boyce Mayo are talking about their work. Charles is a cattle auctioneer and Boyce, a tailor. Here is the man who has helped hurry up law and order on the moon, Mr. Oscar McMillen. He's the one who makes that moon shine. As we move across the ballroom of this great hotel, we see Mr. and Mrs. Frank Mills. Mrs. Mills is the former Jewell Howell of Hickory Flat. Their lovely estate is named Moon Rancho. A great crowd seems to be forming to the left. In the middle of this crowd, providing the entertainment, we see the manager of the Globetrotters, Jimmy Perkins. Near him is one man we feared wouldn't make it to the reunion. He is Mack Thompson, Jr. , who has just completed a bird hunting safari on the moon. As we leave the gentlemen and move over to fairer faces, we notice Mr. Jackie Vanzant, the great movie actor, laughing with Mr. Morris Wilson, the wine connoisseur. Among the ladies we see the former Miss Emogene Baum, who is married to one of our beloved Air Force men. Too, we see Misses Eugenia Beal, Mary Evelyn Edwards, Barbara Whiteside, and Mrs. Josephine Box, the former Josephine Street. Miss Beal is a famous dietician who made her fortune with her Moon- burger recipe. Miss Edwards has a job which not many people could do--de- ciding what will be put in the pills which are used instead of food on the moon. Miss Whiteside is in charge of transmitting electronic rays which are used instead of mail. Josephine is one of the best known hostesses on the moon. PROPHECY The former Betty Jo Goolsby is now married and has quite a few children. She is chatting with the former Freddie Sue Jackson, who is married to the Commanding General of the moon. With them is the noted athlete, Maxcine Kirk. A bright light is blinding us as it gleams from the medal she is wearing. She won the mile race in the Moon Olympics. Let us look in on Jewell Smith, who is a beloved school teacher. She is loved dearly by all her first grade pupils. Too, there is Miss Johnnie Sue Johnson, who is a concert pianist on the moon. She is playing--of all things-- Moonlight Serenade. Last but not least, we see Miss Falba White, the woman who is responsible for the extremely attractive appearance of this group. She has won great recognition as a designer of space suits. Regretfully, the roving reporter leaves the former Seniors, for all news- papermen must meet deadlines--even reporters on the staff of the local news- paper, The Southern Moon Sentinel. —The Junior Class CLASS FLOWER Pink Carnation CLASS COLORS Black, White, and Gold CLASS MOTTO Not the end, but the beginning CLASS SONG Happy days of comradeship are over, And now we must face the parting hour; Fondest memories of bygone pleasures Hold our hearts in their tender gripping pow'r. (Chorus) Farewell, dear friends, we'll think of you Wherever thro' the world our paths may lead us. Since days of yore can come no more, We'll say, Dear comrades, farewell. Though the future beckons, gilt with promise, And fond hopes of fortune yet to be; We can ne'er forget our joyous school days, Bright and fair, from all care and sorrow free. (Tune, Aloha Oe ) To be, or not to be: that is the question: Whether ’tis nobler in the mind to Suffer The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune, Or to take arms against a sea of troubles, And by opposing end them ' SHAKESPEARE J JERRY AUTRY JOHNNIE GRACE GADD RAY COOKE LEROY DERRICK SHIRLEY HUNTER AARON GOOLSBY LARRY GOOLSBY SHIRLEY SHELTON TERRY GOODE WILLIAM MINOR LOTTIE WALKER STANLEY MOOREHEAD JOHNNY VANZANT WAYNE WILKERSON DEVON YEAGER Martha Childers Dean Bradley Mary Joyce Cox Harold Derrick Buford Howell Patricia Gray Frank Howell Mae Etta Hudspeth Bobbie Kirk Kelly McMillen Bertie Ann Nolan Charlie Ormon Larry Robbins Mary Jane Pope Jimmy Shoffner Louise Renick Oma Lou Shoffner Robert Thompson Janice Winburn Terry West Johnny Westmoreland Louise Yeager Blanch Bradford Warner Bradford Cindy Lou Denham Glenn Cossitt Allen Crumpton Mary Rose Harris Mac Hobson Brooksie Hayden Judy Jackson Jerry Hunsucker Shelba Kay Kiddy Dallas King Billy Mayo Mary Joyce Stanton Clinton Mills Louise Taylor Ray Minor Larry Rushing Tommy Shelton Larry Whiteside Sammy Wilkerson Lawrence Winburn ELEMENTARY EIGHTH GRADE Douglas Decker Patricia Taylor Butch Rowland Helen Hobson Jane Childers Wayne Gadd Gloria Whiteside Leon Yeager Billy Cooke Shirley Williams Don Wilson Sandra Goode Ronnie Hudspeth Betty Briscoe Mac Howell Mary Lois Jumper Mary Lois Perkins Billy Dickerson Peggy Massengill Jerry Harris Ollice Massengill Faye Jumper Larry Mason Billy Goolsby Jimmy Ayres Barbara Ayres Truman Taylor Frances Moody James A.
