'But administration sources expressed confidence today the money will be ,re- stored later. ' ' Action by the House came yesterday in passage' of .a 54.2 billion catch-all appropriation bill that had included 3180,- 000 to .start the ,rent subsidy program and authorize con- tracts for another S6 million. Rep. zlaraesf-Harvey, B.-Micke - offered the amendment ': that chopped the money from the bill. He won heavy support from Republicans, and 'some Democrats who'had opposed the program earlier this year in enactment of a housing bill. 'The roll call' vote that knocked the housing subsidy out of-the appropriations bill was 185 to 162. The amend- ment did not affect an appro- priation' of S1'70,000 for admin- istrative expenses of the pro- gram. Perry E. Willits, Miami, Fla., president of the National As- sociation of Home Builders, in a statement, said the House ac- tion on rents was a tragic in Jury which must be repaired in the Senate If allowed to stand he said, the House ac tion will only serve to make home builders reluctant to move ,forward speedily with- their plans to use this program under private' enterprises sponsorship.
