World History deals with the problems of society throughout the world, while American History specializes in the America way of life, American Government teaches the method by which people govern themselves in the United States. This course is recommended as preparation for college study. In the picture at the right, Mrs. Kunkel points out to Bill Barker and Sue Ellis the position of the Louisiana Territory. Sociology is the study of society, its history, its future, and its pres- ent as it effects our lives, Psychology is the study of the mind in all of its aspects. This course includes as part of the regular curriculum a trip to the State Mental Hospital at Fulton. Economics is the study of our financial systems, how they came into being and how they concern us. This course is very valuable and gives the student a practical understanding of financial matters. The purpose of geography is to acquaint the student with the layout of the world. and the distribution of its population, In the photo at the above left, Jerry Snell searches for China while Peggy Turner and Pat Bryant gaze at a scrapbook filled with Chinese lore.

At the right, Roger Stone admires the work of Kay Moreau, who is busily weaving a piece of cloth. These are just a few phases of art produced in our art department. Also offered are such things as lettering, stenciling,and oil painting. Hickman is very lucky to have such a fine art teacher. Mrs. Long has beenteach- ing at Hickman for fifteen years and has helped with many of our projects and activities. She is always in charge of the sets for Homecoming, the Christmas Pageant, the Operetta, and Senior Play. il Sondra Hunt and Linda Colvin demonstrate the stages of basket weaving.
