This course completes Hickman's educational program by supplementing it on the practical side. Industrial arts is taught by brothers,Mr, Armand Hofer and Mr, J arrel Hofer. Vocational Agriculture, under the supervision of Mr. Schneider, offers creative activities in every phase of farming and farm management. In addi- tion to the basic farm skills, this course encompasses many of the new, improved agricultural methods and techniques. All technical material is taught with its practical application, An extensive program in Home Eco- nomics is provided at Hickman, Girls learn everything from cooking to child psychology. WILLIAMS ngers The fine arts department at Hickman consists of three main divisions. the vocal department, directed by Mr. Kent Toalsong the instrumental department, conducted by Mr, Leo Behrensg and the speech department, headed by Mrs, Helen Williams. The vocal clubs, Choraleers , Madri- gal Singers, and Modern Music Masters, are active groups under the able leader- ship of Mr. Toalson, Mr, Behrens conducts the band, orchestra, and small instrumental ensembles, Most of the acting talent comes from the speech department which in wider the brilliant leadership of Mrs, Williams. The Verse Choir, chosen from speech classes, is well known throughout the state. A few of the important programs during the year are the Operetta,Talent Night, and the Christmas Pageant, which consume the efforts of the three fine art departments. Sociology is the study of society, its history, its future, and its pres- ent as it effects our lives, Psychology is the study of the mind in all of its aspects. This course includes as part of the regular curriculum a trip to the State Mental Hospital at Fulton. Economics is the study of our financial systems, how they came into being and how they concern us. This course is very valuable and gives the student a practical understanding of financial matters.
