Principal , Y , BERNARD A. SCHMITZ is a real principal and a real pal. He believes in the students governing them- selves, and in this respect Hickman has become well known. You can go to every high school in Missouri and never find a principal who is as interested, helpful, en- thusiastic, intelligent, and friendly. Mr. Schmitz is a man looked up to and admired by all Hickman students and is an excellent example for us all to follow. We all agree we would have to go far to beat him, because he Assistant Principal MRS. HELEN D. WILLIAMS is assistant principal who cooperates cheerfully in all Kewpie activities. She places great trust in her students, and, in turn, they want to work harder for her. Mrs. Williams has been at Hickman for she quite a while now, and with her warm friendliness tops lists of Kewpies all over. ,If it wasn't for the Verse Choir, which she started, Hickman wouldn't be the same place. We are fortunate to have such a fine person to guide us. Mrs. Williams taught two Speech classes, sponsored Tri- reme and Triship, and directed the Verse Choir and the Senior Play in addition to her duties as assistant principal this year. She has attended four universities: Columbia University, Missouri University, Washington University, and Northwestern University. While studying at these Universities she received her A.B. and A.M. degrees. Mrs. Williams, hobby is raising beautiful flowers, which are often seen at special occasions at Hickman. ,:Q4i Saba- has done a lot to kindle that old 4'Kewpie Spirit into a big roaring flame. Mr. Schmitz attended Central Missouri State College in Warrensburg, Missouri, Peabody College in Nashville, Tennessee, University of Cincinnati, in Cincinnati, Ohio. He has A.B., B.S., and M.A. degrees. His interests outside of school are hunting, fishing, motor boating, and playing bridge.
