The things I am about to write may not seem important to you, but they are very important to the seniors of Hickman High. As we read this history in later years we can lookback and remember all the exciting things that have happened during our four years in high school. Who could ever forget when our class entered the portals as, “Green Freshmen”? We had an enrollment of twenty-eight students and Miss Jean- ette Pearl Graham was our sponsor. The exciting thing we dreaded (in a way) was when we were going to be initated. Our class officers were: President, Gaylon Williams; Vice-President, Helen May; Secretary and Treasurer, Mary Jo Gibson; and Class Reporter, Jane Bennett. In 1949 we entered our Sophomore year with an enrollment of twenty students. Miss Vivian Caldwell, our sponsor, helped us to achieve many of the goals we set for ourselves and our class during the year. Our class officers were: President, Helen May; Vice-President, Tommy Royer; Secretary, Lena M. Lattus; and Treasurer, Joyce Coette Ross. The most eventful of all our high school days were those of our Junior year. Our sponsor was Mr. Riddle. We were looking forward to getting our class rings, and it seemed as if they would never get here But finally they came and we were very excited about them. The most exciting and in a way bor- ing event was when we were raising money for the junior and senior trip. But as the years go on we can lookback and remember the fun we had, such as our trip to the Smoky Mountains. Our class officers were: President, Mary Jo Gibson; Vice-President, Billy Loyd Wilkerson; Secretary, Helen May; Treasurer, Martha Sue Terrett. Truly the most exciting of all our years in high school was when we be- came seniors, but I suppose any student, no matter how modest, admits to being proud when they reach this year. The memories of our high school days would not be complete without tribute to our sponsor Miss Vivian Caldwell and to all the teachers who have helped us to make our achievements possible. Our class officers are: President, Robin Lee Pierce; Vice-President, Eugene Moore; Secretary, Charles Hickerson; Treasurer, Roger Bowers; and Class Reporter, Mary Jo Gibson. Of the group that enteredhigh school with us many have already gone on to do otherthings in life, but the twenty that are graduating in this, the class of 50-51 will always remember and treasure our high school days. 20 CLASS POM We’re about to have our class call; So give me your attention one and all. Robin Lee Pierce is called Mott; He's a good boy and I’ve said a lot. Lena Margaret used to be late, But she’s always on time when she has a date. Billy Gene King is asleep again; He'll wake up, but I won’t say when. Martha Sue feeds boys candy; A bowl near-by sure comes in handy. Skipping algebra again? Why Eugene Moore, What’s so important about sweeping the dressing room floor? Mary Ann hasn’t been the same Since she’s been in bookkeeping, taught by Mr. Roehm. Our most modest boy is Mr. Roger; If he sees a flirty girl he tries to dodge her. Betty Edwards is fond of stars. And one night she took a trip to the planet Mars. Billy Loyd is our class grumbler this year, And Mr. Riddle’s yardstick he really does fear. That girl skipping class is Guelda Vaught; It sure is a wonder she’s never been caught. Billy Craddock can always be found; Mostly when a group of girls is standing around. Joyce Ross was really a scared soul That night she got stuck in a big mud hole. Now where in the world is Roy Ray? I guess he’s taking a nap; he does this time every day. If you hear someone laughing in the show; Don’t be alarmed, it’s just Mary Jo. 21 Charles Wiggam will surely ruin his clothes Swimming to that girl in Scotland, if, and when he goes. Marie Garner never stayed in Home Ec. Class, And by Mr. Mitchell's door she'd stoop to pass. If you hear some commotion in town some night; Just look out the window, you’ll see John White. I’ll introduce Sidney Stone next; She's usually with someone of the opposite sex. When you cross the street in the early morn; Get out of the way if you hear Hickerson’s horn. Peggy Tipton has a fancy to cheer and yell; She says it's been fun, except the time when she fell. Tommy Royer would be out of place If he tried to sing tenor and not sing bass. Miriam is bright and ought to go far; It's not a wonder because she's a Stahr. B. T. keeps Virginia Stokes on the go, And why he keeps her guessing, I’d like to know. I've introduced them all, I'll be on my way. And in case you don’t know. I’m Helen May. Jo Gibson CLASS OPTimiST As the optimist of the Senior Class of 1951, I would first like to say that we, as a whole, are very optimistic. The members can spread light into the darkest corners. We feel that our years spent in school have been the happiest years of our lives. As we leave we will remember in our hearts our teachers, friends, and all of the fun we have had together. Two outstanding achievements made by the class as a whole, were taking the seniors to Smoky Mountains when we were juniors and publishing The Bluff of 1951. Some of the achievements made by various members have been serving on the Stu- dent Council, being cheerleaders, being honor students, and making good records in basketball. Our graduation is another milestone in our lives that will lead us to trials far greater than we're ever known and to a bigger and brighter future. Before leaving we wish to express our sincere thanks and appreciation to the faculty and especially to our superintendent, Mr. T. D. Ozment, and Miss Vivian Caldwell, our sponsor. Without their help the publishing of our annual would have been impossible. Now that we are graduating, I, in behalf of the Senior Class, bid adieu to our be- loved Alma Mater. CLASS PROPHECy Eugene Moore Ladies and Gentlemen: I wish to introduce to you, myself. I am one of those who has returned from the wonderful career which Uncle Sam offers you. To pass away the time, I think I will browse around in some of these old papers. Here is an old looking one dated 1969, and it is called the Hick- man Gossip Paper. Oh well, I might as well peer it over and see what has happened to my old classmates. The former Miss Mary Jo Gibson, now wife of a local fisherman, has stated that she has caught the largest cat fish in the world. Turning the pages, I now look at the personal column. Well, well, it says that Mrs. Hughes has just returned from a missionary trip from Japan. Mrs. Hughes is my old classmate, Helen May. Betty Edwards has opened a large cafe at Shuck Switch and her wait- resses are none other than Joyce Ross and Martha Sue Terrett. Turning the pages to another column it says that Guelda Vaught is now owner of the Little Ark. As I glance on over the paper, I see that Roger Bowers is owner of the Ritz Theater, and his operator is none other than, that’s right, you guessed it, Tommy Royer. While reading in the sports articles I see that Billy Loyd Wilkerson has started playing ball for the St. Louis Browns, also that Robin Lee Pierce is playing professional basketball with the Kentucky Wildcats. I notice a bulletin that Billy Gene King is running a recreation hall, also he is known as the best pool-shot in Hickman. Hmmm., It says here that Billy Craddock owns a night club on the lake, and that the dance director is Miss Marie Garner. As I look over the school news, I see that Charles Hickerson has taken Mr. T. D. Ozment's place as Superintendent, and also Ray Wiseman is teaching in Mr. Riddle’s place. I see that Miss Mary Ann Dotson owns the Five and TenCent Store: also that Lena Margaret Lattus now owns a farm in Fulton. As I turn to page twenty-three in the paper, I see that John White is driving a hopped-up-model-A in the speed races; also Charles Wiggam is driving a new Mercury. I notice in the want ads, that Peggy Tiptonis wanting a secretary to help her in the office at the Ford garage. Here is an article stating that Dr. Miriam Stahr has opened a clinic on Broadway in New York. It says here that Mrs. Garrison has a bouncing baby boy. She is none other than my old classmate Virginia Stokes. Here’s another article saying that the book How To Walk Gracefully is now on sale in all drugstores. This book was written by Sidney Stone. As for me, I am planning on building a little home in Bardwell. 23 CLASS WILL We the graduating class of 1951, of Hichman High School, in the county of Fulton, and State of Kentucky, being of sound mind (I think) and body, do hereby make and publish our last will and testament to you of Hickman High. Betty Jean Edwards To the juniors, we leave the headache of publishing next years Bluff. To the sophomores, we leave the making of money for the junior and senior trip. To the freshmen, we leave our dignity and thoughfulness. The seniors leave the unfortunate students their most outstanding characteristics. ROGER ALLEN BOWERS--His girls to Jody Malone. This document is signed in the presence of the senior class of 1951, on this eighteenth day of May in the year of our Lord, 1951. 1951 Senior Class Seal 24 CLASS PESSI IMS! Well every year they always have a Class Grumbler, so this year for some reason I was elected it. In my opinion every one has the right to grumble if you ask me. You have to sit in the room every day, all day long with your head stuck in a book, which does no one any good. They give you four or five books and you are told to get busy and be quiet. They won’t let you chew gum, talk or do anything except study all day long. Then when dinner time comes, they let you off for about an hour fora little of real fun, but then after that back to study again. This kind of life goes on for about twelve or thirteen years for just a little thing called a diploma. Just think all this studying for just this. I’d like to meet the person who said we had to go to school anyway. And instead of giving us the diploma and letting us go home, we have to go through graduating exercises, wearing caps and gowns. Boy, life sure gets tedious. JOKES “I looked upon the mountain, I gazed across the plain, I thought I saw some green stuff, That looked like waving grain.” “I took another look, I thought it was some grass; Good gracious to my horror, I found. That it was the Freshman Class. Marie: “So John is teaching you how to play baseball? Martha Sue: “Yes. and when I asked him what a squeeze play was, I think he put one over on me. Eugene: “Why did you close your eyes when I kissed you? Mary Ann: “Because I thought I was in heaven and who ever heard of a black-headed angel. Dinkey: “You are the breath of life to me. Joyce: “Well, suppose you hold your breath for a while? Ray: “Could I change this pair of pants at this counter? Lena: “No sir! There’s a dressing room in the rear. 25 Jo Ann McClellan Billy Joe Roberts Charles Cooper James Black Charles Halterman Richard Cartwright Faydell Morrow Betty Jo Watson James King William Jackson Boyce Ross Gerald Jackson Glenn Sargent Royce Ritchie J. Vice-President Barkley was kind enough to stand in front of the Hickman High School Building and make a brief speech to the pupils assembled outside to greet him. In his speech, he said that the student body was about as fine a group of pupils he had ever seen and he wished that they all might study hard and pass in their subjects. Mr. Barkley was accompanied in the car by his wife and Secret Service men. In the picture with him can be seen the Chairman of the School Board, Mr. Frank Crouch and also several of the wellknown members of the student body. Few schools are ever honored by a visit from a dignitary of such importance. 34 (HISS HICKIHIIII HIGH SCHOOL HDD OTTtnDftllTS LEFT TO RIGHT: Jean Glidewell, Freshman Queen; Billy Garrison, Sophomore Bus. Although some of the games were notas sparkling as others, the Wild- cats foughthard and will go down in the records of H. H. S. as one of the fighting teams. The Cats got off to a veryslow start, but thenlater on the boys started going and were determined to win the District Tournament.
