SECONDTFUW: Michael Vidmar, Collin Versich, Robert Perfetti Gerald Fena, Donald Martella, Richard Whelan, Clifton Rasch. KNEELING, Michael Laurienzo. BLUEJACKETS SECOND IN DISTRICT Hibbing's Basketball team got off to a very slow start this year, losing 5 out ot their first 7 games. This was due to the reason that they had only one returning starter and because they played some of the better teams in this region such as, Gilbert, Superior Central, Bemidji, and Crookston. The team also had numerous starters during the year. Even though they were having a bad year, the team was never short on aggressiveness and eagerness. This paid otf because after Christmas the team really started to play well. In their own District the team tinished third. 126 The Blueiackets defeated such watin 55-49, Nashwauk 53-47, and Deer River 73-44. The Jackets were defeated by such out- standing teams as Chisholm 49-44, and Green- way 6O-49- This was a good finish after a pocr start. This was due to both the hard work of the players and their coach Angelo Pergol. In the District 28 Tournament, Islibbing defeated Nashwauk 57-47 and then took Green- way 47-39. They then met Chisholm for the Championship and were defeated 59-51. Thus ending a very successful season tor the hoopsters.

Charles Bloomquist, John Puhek, Everett Macy, James Walker, James Csargo, James White, James Gargano. RUNNER-UP IN CONFERENCE Thinking they were on top of the world, the team next met the Grand Rapids Indians and the Indians toppled the Jackets by a score of 19 to 0. In their next game the gridders started to show their class as they defeated Virginia, 19 to 13. Corky Krollman and Richy Maras led the team to victory with their outstanding play. Being put in the underdog role against the Eveleth Golden Bears, the Hibbing team sur- prised the Bears by defeating them, 7 to 0. Closing out the season, Hibbing went out and clubbed the rival Chisholm Bluestreaks, 32 to 0. Everyone who played in the game did an outstanding job. Having a conference record ot 5 wins and 2 losses, the Blueiackets finished runner-up to the Greenway Raiders in the Iron Range Con- ference.
