Opening the season, the gridders squeaked by a highly underrated Moorhead team, 7 to 6. Collin Versich proved to be the hero as his extra point kick proved to be the margin of victory. ln their opening conference game of the season, the Jackets encountered an inspired Greenway team and were defeated, 19 to 0. Next meeting the tough International Falls Broncos, the squad led by Jerry Fena and Paul Ricci, broke loose in the second half of a hard fought game and subdued the Broncos, 13 to 0. Traveling to Ely, the Jackets met a stubborn Timberwolf team and had a rough time of it. Greg Wheldon and Marty Shuster showed the way before the Jackets finally won, 20 to l9.

RUNNER-UP IN CONFERENCE Thinking they were on top of the world, the team next met the Grand Rapids Indians and the Indians toppled the Jackets by a score of 19 to 0. In their next game the gridders started to show their class as they defeated Virginia, 19 to 13. Corky Krollman and Richy Maras led the team to victory with their outstanding play. Being put in the underdog role against the Eveleth Golden Bears, the Hibbing team sur- prised the Bears by defeating them, 7 to 0. Closing out the season, Hibbing went out and clubbed the rival Chisholm Bluestreaks, 32 to 0. Everyone who played in the game did an outstanding job. Having a conference record ot 5 wins and 2 losses, the Blueiackets finished runner-up to the Greenway Raiders in the Iron Range Con- ference.
