Opening the season, the gridders squeaked by a highly underrated Moorhead team, 7 to 6. Collin Versich proved to be the hero as his extra point kick proved to be the margin of victory. ln their opening conference game of the season, the Jackets encountered an inspired Greenway team and were defeated, 19 to 0. Next meeting the tough International Falls Broncos, the squad led by Jerry Fena and Paul Ricci, broke loose in the second half of a hard fought game and subdued the Broncos, 13 to 0. Traveling to Ely, the Jackets met a stubborn Timberwolf team and had a rough time of it. Greg Wheldon and Marty Shuster showed the way before the Jackets finally won, 20 to l9.
