Williams XX 'Nladeau F Grady X1 Nlurpln XX OBrien R Killem TRACK Clnders' Cmders' Cmders' They re off' The coyeted tape in the dim distance the cheers of the crowd and the anxious eyes of the teammates signify that a track meet is on With only three letter men returning to competition to form the nucleus of the 1933 track team, the Hibbmg team surprised the pre season dopesters by annex mg second in the district meet placing in the regional and taking a third place in the state meet In the only dual meet of the year Hibbing dropped several close races to the strong Duluth Central squad and was beaten 98 'Q to 85 V Kurtlman after losing to Passolt in the 100 yard dash came back strong to beat his rival in the 220 for the first Hibbmg wm Then Paciotti tied for first in the pole yault Morin won the first of his usual string of victories Williams a new comer, took first in the hurdles, and the relay team composed of Kurtzman Moody Topinka and Nadeau came in first in the fastest time recorded at a dual meet for several years Anderson finished the Hibbmg victories vsith firsts in both the shot put and discus In the district meet held here Coleraine vias first with 60 points and I-Iibbing second vuth 44 Kurtzman duplicated his vxin in the 220 but vias forced to be satisfied vsith a tie for first in the 100 after looking back at the finish Morin clicked off a good 2 07 in the half mile run to take his usual first place while Nadeau took third in the quarter Grady qualified for the regional in the high-jump' Paciotti vsas tied for first again in the pole yaultg and the relay 'team upset a heavily-favored Coleraine squad to take tneir second consecutiye first. Anderson again vxon in the discus event. Morin was the only indiyidual vi inner in the regional meet although the relay' team won their event in 1:37 just one second over the record Hibbing time. Paciotti and Kurtzman both lost their ey ents for the first time during the season. Boxed in by' the unusually large number of entries Morin failed to qualify for the state half-mile finals his first defeat of the year. The relay team came through strong, though plac- ing second in the fastest qualifying heat and then annexed third in the finals though breaking the state record. The team set up a fine record in point-gaining and in sports- manship. W. W. MacMillan was the coach. -3 82 1' V' vm. Vy7f7.
