CONTENTS Administration .................5 Faculty 13 Seniors 19 Juniors 35 Sophomores 41 Freshmen 49 Organizations 55 Sports 75 Activities 83 THE 1972 HAWK Presented By The Annual Staff Of Hiawatha High School Kirkland, Illinois We, the Class of 1972, wish to honor the man who has earned our utmost respect and appreciation. He never failed to broaden our outlooks and brighten our days at Hiawatha. He always had time for us, not just because he was our counselor, but because he cared about our future. It is to you, then, Mr. John Karolus, that the senior class of 1972 dedicate their annual. SUPERINTENDENTS MESSAGE To the Class of 1972 I feel especially close to you, the members of the Class of 1972, because you were just beginning your high school career the year I came to Hiawatha. Though the time has passed rapidly it has not been without its memorable moments. Many changes have occurred in the world, our society, and in Hiawatha High School during these past four years, but the greatest and perhaps the most important changes are those that have taken place in each of you. You are no longer the thirteen and fourteen year olds you were then, you are now young adults with most of the privileges and responsibilities of the adult world. How well you handle these newly awarded privileges and responsibilities will reflect how well we, the staff, at Hiawatha have met our responsibilities to you. We will watch with hope and pride as you continue on in the adult world 1 am con- fident that you will not disappoint us. Mr. Ingrum 6 To the Class of 1972: I know it sounds trite to say that this is truly an outstanding senior class. I believe it; but rather than be repetitious, I shall state that you, the first senior class that I have ever been fortunate enough to guide through the freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior years—are the best. One of the pluses of my position is to observe the slow process of maturation that occurs as you progress through these four step that culminate in commencement in June. Writing in terms of a true analogy, I have watched the Class of 1972 grow and mature like the freshman who definitely disliked my reaching out to muss his hair to the senior who could reverse the process should he so desire. Yours is a happy class, most of you seem to be delighted at being the leaders of Hiawatha High. At this time I would like to personally congratulate each of you for your achievements and express my hope that life continues to be pleasant and worth while. Jimmy D.
