PUBLISHED BY THE ANNUAL STAFF OF HIAWATHA HIGH SCHOOL DEDICATION Miss Mary Ann Thors on We, the Senior Class of Nineteen Hundred and Seventy-one, are honored to dedicate this, the '71 Hawk, to a teacher who has given us much of her time, energy, and knowledge. To you, Miss Mary Ann Thorson we present . . . 2 TABLE OF CONTENTS ADMINISTRATION 5 FACULTY ................ 9 ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANTS............15 SENIORS................ 23 JUNIORS................ 37 SOPHOMORES..............43 FRESHMEN .............. 51 ORGANIZATIONS...........57 SPORTS ................ 79 ACTIVITIES 87 ADMINISTRATION Graduating Class of 71 To you, the graduating seniors, I offer my congratulations. You are to be commended for ac- cepting your responsibilities and meeting the expectations set for you by your parents, the school, and society. You have met the challenge. I am proud of you, as a class, but more so as individuals. I have watched each of you develop from uncertain sophomores to sophisticated seniors. I have suffered through your disappoint- ments and rejoiced at your triumphs. Because of my position I have said no to you; because of your character I have said yes to you; and, because of you I am a better person. Vem Ingram SUPERINTENDENT’S MESSAGE 6 PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE 'rQ. To the Class of 1971: From the very first day of school I could feel that this was to be the best year at Hi Watha High School. The school atmostphere, a mystic intangible, has been the buzz of accomplish- ment rather than the noise of boredom. Cooperation between the faculty and student body has been so good that I sometimes wonder what my duties as principal actually are. I would like to emphasize that you are indeed fortunate to have such a staff as your instructors. My aim as principal of Hiawatha High School is to see that all students develop attainable goals during their tenure here. The most productive method of doing this is by having the leaders of the school, the seniors, ready and willing to pull more than their fair share of the load. The Class of 1971 has led in setting the stage for our school to become a source of pride in the eyes of our community. The staff and I sincerely appreciate the way all groups, following your leadership, are making Hiawatha High School Your kind of place! Jimmy D.
