'ROUND THE WCRLD IN TEN MINUTES As 1979 rolls around, the class of '59 will be occupying jobs around the world. Tak- ing a cruise on the USS Hawk, let's begin meeting the crew. The first person we run into is Dave Anderson, who holds the position of chief garbage grinder on board. As in English Class, he never quite made the grade. Also on board is Jack Berg who holds the rank of Captain and who is assisted by Glen Ludwig, the Chief Steward. Our first stop is London and, as we browse, we watch for old friends. We stop to gaze at a sausage stuffer in a small shop and notice that it is Butch Johnson. Some people even accuse him of having long fingers. Our next stop is Paris. While here we take in a stage show and see Europe's greatest can-can dancing team. This team is comprised of many of our old school mates including Carol Vowles, Virginia Johnson, Carolyn Peterson, and Barb Hanstrom. They tell us that all of their fame goes to their master dance teacher, Max Wenzel, who always was known for his nlmbleness. Leaving Paris, we go to Monte Carlo where we meet another of our friends, Judy Gustafson, who works there as a cigarette glrl. Her face lit up when she saw us. While we play a slot machine, a coin becomes lodged and a mechanic has to be called. We watch the mechanic work tediously and notice that lt is Bob Prlndiville, the world's great- est slot machine fixer. He always had the reputation of getting money out of a tight fix. Moving on to Italy, we run into Herb Jesse and learn that he has a job stuffing sardines in cans and is in partnership with Bill Rollins, who runs an Italian Pepperoni factory. Their main diet is Bologna. In fact, they are both quite full of it. Our next stop is Arabia and here we run into Jim Paulsen and his world famous Camel Caravan. As we watch him pass, we see that his chief camel caretaker is Joel Linderoth. Since it is Christmas Time, he is cleaning the camels' Sandy Claws. Waving to Joel, we see a big black 1920 Cadillac come up the road toward us and recognize its driver as Danny Roush, who has struck an olive oil well. We then take a plane to Australia. On the flight we meet Merikay Byers and Marilyn Dundore who are African big- game hunters--looking for football and basketball games. As we arrive in the land down under we see Mel Nelson, who is training boxing kanga- roos for American television performances. He says he'd rather be training hogs to talk Greek. Also, we meet John Wilkinson and Sue Nelson, who are working among the Aborigines in the Northern Part of the Island. Our journey next takes us to India where we meet Steve Humphry and Carlin Lee, who are working on a movie called, How To Get Back To Irene. In China, we meet Gerry Scheffers teaching silk worms how to spin nylon. He keeps the worms happy by playing the song, The Little Brown Jug. Japan is our next stop and here Nancy Parisot is trying to teach the Japanese women how to blink and roll their eyes in her own special way. Then on to Hawaii and while walking on Waikiki Beach we meet Bonnie DeBarr, Roxie McLarning, Judy Ranken, and Dot Thomas teaching the hula dancers how to use the hula hoop. They were in quite a whirl about the whole thing. Coming near home we visit Mexico and find Karen Smith is a world-renowned bull thrower. She always was pretty windy. On our way back to the U. S. we meet Karen Schwebke working in an olive-stuffing factory. Poor Olive must be getting full by now. Our last stop is Alcatraz Prison where we see the world's greatest joke cracker entertaining the inmates. To our astonishment we see that it is Fred Marshall. Well, he made it to C alifornla, but not quite to Hollywood! Our journey is now ended, but our memories of happy high school daze in Kirkland will linger on and on. F a 5 i i I i I I i I I i I !
