She graduated from Phillips High School as the valedictorian of her class. She then attended Birmingham-Southern College, where she was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa national scholastic honor society and again graduated as the valedictorian of her class. After teaching for one year at Phillips High School, she quit teaching to become Mrs. Kenneth Thomas. After two years of not teaching, during which time her daughter Sue was born, she resumed teaching; this time at Warrior High School. She taught there for two years before transferring to Hewitt. While a math teacher at Hewitt, she returned to college, the University of Alabama, to earn her Master s degree. Her daughter Sue graduated from Hewitt-Trussville High School in 1977. She too was the valedictorian of her class, following in her mother's footsteps. Sue is now married and has made Mrs. Thomas a grandmother. The Thomases live on a small farm In the middle of nowhere, somewhere between Clay and Pinson. From this unknown, uncertain location, she daily finds her way to HTHS where she harangues on Algebra I and II and is the cosponsor of Mu Alpha Theta, a national mathematics honor society. Senior . They have made many changes — one being their name from Student Council to Student Government Association. They have worked more closely with the administration and faculty this year to insure student involvement In school policies. This year they showed movies in the gym after Friday night basketball games to raise money to improve the school in many ways. Homecoming is their main event and this year's homecoming activities proved to be a great success. The carnival on the campus provided a variety of student activities, all of which were thought of and planned by various classes, organizations, and groups with guidance by the S.G.A. The Blood Drive this year proved to be a drive that will be long remembered. Students of Hewitt responded with enthusiasm in the S.G.A.’s search for The Gift of Life.
