The school Board consists of five citizens, elected by popular vote, to serve staggered, six-year terms as the decision and policy-making body. The Board operates under the committee system to approve educational programs, new construction projects, and employ the necessary personnel to effectively operate the school system. Mrs. Betsy Faucette is chairman of the Administration Committee and Mr. Chester Cowan, jr. is co-chairman. Mr. Jack E. Brymer. Sr. is chairman of the Support Operations Committee and Mr. Bill Mewbourne is co-chairman. The president of the SchoqJ Board. Mrs. Robert W. Gwin, serves as ex-officio member of each committee. During her eighteen years at Hewitt, she has filled a variety of positions. She first came as a girl’s physical education teacher. She has taught social studies and has also served as sponsor of the cheerleaders. Since 1972, she has worked as a counselor. She works with the tenth and part of the eleventh grade. Mrs. Smith says she loves her job and never wants to retire. She is also fond of reading and traveling. She attends the United Methodist Church in Trussville where she sings in the choir and teaches a Sunday School class. She graduated from VVoodlawn High School in Birmingham and then attended Samford University and the University of Alabama in Birmingham where she earned her AB. MA and AA degrees.
