Gwin The Hewitt Trussville High School is an integral part of the Jefferson County Board of Education, the largest suburban school system in Alabama. The School Board consists of five citizens, elected by populat vote, to serve staggered, six-year terms as the decision and policy-making body. The Board operates under the committee system to approve educational programs, new constructior projects, and employ the necessary personnel to effectively operate the school system. Mr. Randall I. Godwin is chairman of the administration committee and Mrs. Betsy Faucette is co-chairman. Dr. Jack M. Dabbs serves as chairman of the support operations committee and Mrs. Robert W. Gwin is co-chairman. The president of the School Board, Mr. Jack E. Brymer. Sr., serves as ex-officio member of each. Dr. J. The band members worked three weeks to prepare it before opening. They called it Adams Manor . Included in this haunted house were the mad butcher. Frankenstein. The climax ol the Clinic, however, resulted when they received the honor ol being best Varsity squad For this honor, they were asked to cheer at the nationally televised Blue-Gray loot-bad game The work didn’t end with the Clime, however, it had only just begun Immediately upon returning home, the cheerleaders began preparing lor the upcoming lootball season. Throughout the year, ihe practice never stopped, so when the winter seasons ol basketball and wrestling arrived, the girls were ready to cheer lor them also. Throughout the year, the squad was under the excellent leadership ol their sponsor. This year the choral department participated in several activities, including field trips to the Gregg Smith Singers. an opera and the All-County Music :estival Students also had the opportunity to audi-ion for All-State Chorus at Auburn The choral department tries to do a variety of nusic. including popular and serious music as well. Students are also required to learn how to read nusic. but reading music is not a requirement to get i a choral class. They attended National Drill Team camp at the University of West Georgia At this camp they received 2 Superior trophies. They were also voted on by the other teams as Team of the Week In Homewood and Hoover marching festivals they also received Superior ratings.
