Mr. Stephens has served Hewitt Truss ille for 14 years by teaching Government and Economics. He has de oied his life to the enlightening of minds to current and past historical events. His mnuence goes beyond the classroom for he creates a desire for knowledge of social studies and the world around us. ADMINISTRA TION Cathy Burke: Editor Mr. Robison Oversee. 20 le Halls of Hewitt MR. REUBEN ROBISON received hisB.S. and M.A. degrees from the University of Alabama and Troy State. This is Mr. Robison ' s fourth year at Hewitt. This year Mr. Robison ' s message is found in the following lines: Whom, then do 1 call educated? First, those who control circumstances instead of being mastered by them, Those who meet all occasions manfully and act in accordance with intelligent thinking, Those who are honorable in all dealings, Who treat good-naturedly persons and things that are disagreeable; And furthermore, those who hold their pleasures under control and are not overcome by misfortune; Finally; those who are not spoiled by success. Socrates 21 Mr. Eubanks Enforces School Discipline MR. H. O. EUBANKS is the assistant principal and head coach at Hewitt this year. He has a very important job of discipline at Hewitt which he carries out very well. We are all fond of Mr. Eubanks and feel fortunate to have him at Hewitt. 22 School Personnel •in. WtJ i MRS. DELLA SUTTER Mrs. Sutter has been Hewitt ' s receptionist and bookkeeper for many years. She keeps entries of each club ' s funds and keeps Hewitt running smoothly. MRS. MARGIE ROPER Mrs. Roper is a very capable record keeper. She is in charge of students grades, permanent records, and transfers. MRS. MARION ORMOND Mrs. Ormond, Hewitt ' s advisor, went to Birmingham Southern and the University of Alabama where she received her A.B. and M.A. degrees. She has been a great help to Hewitt in the past seventeen years. 23 Sportsmanship Is Important in P.E. MR. DAVID ROBERTS Auburn University, B.S. Physical Education Sponsors: Key Club MR, JAMES G. Physical Education The purpose of physical educa- tion at Hewitt this year extends past health fitness . Through a well-rounded program of activities Hewitt has added interest in respon- sible conduct and participation in competitive sports . Along with these, another important purpose of physical education is sportsman- ship In order to play effectively on a team, one must first have good sportsmanship . For those students who take an extra interest in physical education, they may serve as a physical edu- cation assistant. Choral Sponsors: Madrigalians, Boys Ensemble A true way for a student to ex- press himself is through art. Wheth- er the art is singir , drawing, or playing a musical instrument is up to the individual. All these ways of expressing oneself are available at Hewitt. At Hewitt much emphasis is given to office education which has been organized into a three- year two-hour block program of special- ized study which begins in the tenth grade and continues through the twelfth grade. Business education is also rele- vant education since secretarial and stenographic positions top the list in em- ployment opportunities. Those students not enrolling in the block program are offered courses which enhance their academic education and prepares them to live in a business-oriented society. MR. Whether it be dissecting a frog, conducting an experiment, or studying nature itself, the students always seem to enjoy the science department. With Hewitt ' s well trained teachers and modern equipment, many courses are offered. Home Economics Sponsors: Jr. National Honor Society To be able to sew for oneself, she must learn the first and most important steps to follow . At Hewitt, the Home Economics department helps girls to learn these steps which often lead to beautiful sewing and designing. Hewitt ' s Home Economics department also teaches cooking, which is essential to every girl later in her life. The students not only learn to cook, but they also learn to plan meals which are nutritious as well as appetizing. 29 Mathematics Improves Reasoning :,:-? . MRS. In planning for the future as a citizen we can look back through history. Hewitt ' s social studies department includes many courses which aid in future planning and participating in social events. Hewitt offers two-year courses in both French and Spanish. These help the students to learn to communicate better and also help them to realize the importance of our own language. To help the students, Hewitt has a language laboratory which includes tape recorders which help a great deal in learning and also add enjoyment to these courses . LOUISE GARRETT Library Aide Hewitt ' s library is undoubtedly the most rapidly growing department in our school. Hewitt ' s library not only con- tains books, maps, and encyclopedias, but it also contains film strips, slides, and recordings which are often used in classrooms. Representing the student body, it provides the link between the students and the faculty. Eligibility for the club is to maintain a B average in P.E. , score 200 points in intramural activities, and assist in P.E. one semester. The G.A.C. ' s have the privilege of wearing the white gymsuit with green mono- gram. The club sponsors a fine intramural program which includes team, dual, and individual sports. An annual project of the Trussville Jr. Civitans is the preparation of a thirty minute feature film about facts and foibles of the past school year. Club membership is restricted to about twenty-five boys who are selected on the basis of their school citizenship and for having a positive attitude in general. The club is associ- ated with Civitan International and is sponsored by the Trusville Civitan Club.
