English, the basis for learning The English Department of Hewitt- Tmssville offers a choice of three English classes. College English is offered to those students who plan to enter college. This course is concerned mainly with wri ting and research. Regular English classes cover the same material that College English classes do, but not to as great an extent. Basic English classes cover just the basic fundamentals of English. MRS. CHARLOTTE SUTTER has taught at Hewitt for thirteen years. She at- tended Samford University where she received her A. B. degree. MRS. MILDRED LAMAR, sponsor of the Senior Class, is teaching her twenty-third year at Hewitt. She attended Birmingham-Southern University where she received her A. B, degree. MRS. EDNA HALL GRUMAN has taught at Hewitt for two years and sponsors the Service Association and the Junior Toastmaster ' s Club. She received her A. B, degree from Samford University and M. A, de- gree from Alabama College. MRS. VIRGINIA M. EASTER is teaching her first year at Hewitt. She received her B. S. degree from Jacksonville State University. MRS. WILMA ROSY, sponsor of the Junior National Honor Society, has taught at Hewitt for eleven years. She received her B. S. and M. A. degrees from Florence State and the University of Alabama.

Studies of the past, present, and future Social Studies deals with human life. As we learn about the past of man, we are also learning about the future. Through the courses of World History, American History, Alabama History, Economics, Government, and Com- munism, we are preparing ourselves for a better tomorrow. As a result of these courses, we become better citizens enabling us to participate in a demo- cratic government. MR. WALTER STEPHENS has taught at Hewitt for twelve years. He received his A. B. and M. A. degrees from Bir- mingham-Southern University. MR. JOHN F. DYER, sponsor of the Speech and Drama Club, received his A. B. degree from the University of Alabama. Mathematics offer unlimited opportunities The Mathematics Department at Hewitt offers a wide range of courses of stu- dents interested in this field. These courses are general math, plane and solid geometry, and Algebra 1, II, and III. Students who take mathematics improve their reasoning power and prepare themselves for situations which require an adequate knowledge of mathematics. MRS. BETTY THOMAS, sponsor of the Math Honor Club, received her B. A. degree from Birmingham- Southern Uni- versity. She has taught at Hewitt for eight years. MRS. NORMA BUSBY has taught at Hewitt for two years. She attended Auburn University where she re- ceived her B. S. degree. She co- sponsors the Red Cross Council. Mrs. Busby teaches English. MRS.
