This is Mr. Trotter ' s message to the faculty and students of Hewitt-Trussville: v ' ith our school year coming to a close, we pause to look back upon the friends and happiness we have had. This year has been filled with many experiences which I shall never forget. The joys, the sorrows, the fun, and the hard work — these are all part of our memories of the past year. My deep appreciation goes to you, the students, the faculty, and the hard-working Memento Staff for the won- derful cooperation that you have given me throughout this year. I have enjoyed serving as your principal, and I hope that in some way I have helped to make Hewitt-Trussville a better school for you. Faithfully yours, Jimmie Trotter Principal Guidance MRS. Eligibilit) ' for membership in the Junior National Honor Societ) ' requires attendance of at least one semester at Hewitt. Ail candidates must have a B average to be eligible for membership. The five qualifications of the Honor Society are Scholarship, Leadership, Service, Character, and Citizenship. Exxcllence in Scholarship reveals not only that one ' s store of knowledge has been increased, but also that the individual has endeavored to make the most of the opportunities at hand. The qualification of Leadership is its highest sense is not simply an outgrowth of a vigorous and pleasing personality. In order to benefit mankind. Leadership must pro- ceed from unselfish motives, from a strong character, and from an informed mind. It requires constant denial of self, a genuine affection for mankind, and an abiding trust in God. Character is not measured by words and deeds alone, but how one acts in all different kinds of situations. Service symbolizes the unselfish courage which is used in s ervice of the nation, the school, and individual. Good citizenship means performing duties to benefit our nation. Phillips came back in the fourth quarter in a des- perate drive to make their only T.D. of the game. The Huskie defense fought hard on the parts of Donald Allen, Danny Cosby, Fred Roddam and Cliff Hall. 169 Basketball VARSITY D. Perry, S. Choat, R. Landrum, E. B. Hanks, E. McQueen, A. Lathum, B. Davidson, S. Turner, S. Waid, Coach Norris, T. Hawkins. The 1967-68 Hewitt-Trussville Basketball Team with Dwight Norris as their coach, has worked hard this year. With an overall record of 9 wins and 7 losses, Hewitt has won 5 county games and lost 2 as of January 27. With Coach Norris, the Huskies finished second in the Leeds Invitational, losing only to Odenville. The team also placed fourth in the Carbon Hill Invitational. The Huskies unfortunately missed going to the Jefferson County Classic when they were defeated by Shades Valley. Continuous practice, dedication, and desire has really kept our team fighting. With only one senior on our team, the young inexperienced players have proved promising. We would like to congratulate our team for the fine sportsmanship shown and their excellent work. 170 COACH NORRIS, CAPTAIN CHOAT Now get your bee-beep out there and play ball ! Six meets have been scheduled for April; the Alabama Relay, Auburn Invitational, Hewitt Invitational, Montgomery Invitational, and the sectional and state meets. Although having not competed in any meets, we have great expectations for our team and sincerely hope they will make a fine showing for the school.
