Varsity Team G. Yarbrough, Captain D. Smith, Co«Captain FOOTBALL The 1959 football season saw a good year at Hewitt-Trussville High School as the Huskies posted a record of 7 wins and 3 losses. We would like to thank Coach (Piggy) Mitchell, Coach Bill Marsh and Coach Bill Lankford for great coaching that made this record possible. Bobby Franklin and Doug White scored the most points during the season. These men were led by their respective quarterbacks, Skipper Brock and Harry Gol-son. The Huskies opened their 1959 season with a 6-0 victory over Leeds at Trussville. Hewitt fans got their first look at the Huskies in action. Early Friday night, September 4, found the men from Trussville on the short end of the score for the first time in the season. The Huskies started several drives but could not move the boll. They gave- it everything they had but Tarrant was a little too much for them. At the end of the gome the score stood Hewitt 6 Tarrant 25. September 25 found the Huskies asleep os Shades Valley High School won with 20-12 victory. The Huskies had them in the first half but Valley came back with more driving power than the Huskies. The Hewitt-Trussville Huskies marked themselves up another victory as they mauled Springville at Trussville Stadium 32 to 6. The Huskies were sparked by a rushing ground attack and alert defense. The Huskies racked up a 12 to 6 victory over Valley. It was not a game to be forgotten as Jones Valley was picked to win. Hewitt had a great homecoming except for one thing; the football team lost to Fairfield. The Huskies gave it all they could But it was not enough as Fairfield was just o little bit better. At the end of the game the score stood Fairfield 14, Hewitt 6. October 16 was a great night for the Hewitt-Trussville Huskies as they beat Mortimer Jordan 14 to 0. The Huskies didn't have any mercy for Mortimer Jordan's Homecoming. After being way ahead in the first half it was not enough for the Huskies as they beat Minor with a 25 to 0 VICTORY. The Huskies scored 6 points in the finol stanza to ice away the gome. The team of Piggy Mitchell gave the grads something to yell about as they rolled over McAdory with a 32 to 0 victory. The night of November 13, at Trussville Stadium the Huskies rolled by Oak Grove. The night was cold but the Huskies were hot as they plowed Oak Grove under with a 51 to 6 VICTORY.
