This was the Beard Trophy on whiih is placed the name of the most outstand- ing player of the year. To win this distinction, a player must be outstanding in sportsmanship, co-operation, ability, and attitude. Presented to the winner is a gold football on which is engraved his name anil position. The faculty and Student Council, as well as the football team and coaches, wish to thank Mr. Richard Beard for placing in concrete form, the ideal of good sportsman- ship. 'I'Hli S'l'l7lJ1iN'l' COU ll IIE ITT HES ! 1948 brings to a close the 5th successful year of Student Council government at Hewitt. Under the able leadership of Jimmy Barrs, President, Mrs. McKinnon, Sponsor and Mr. Peake, Principal, much progress has been made. The Hi-Light is now published every two weeks rather than once a month. This issue of the Memento is larger. A radio-phonograph has been added to the school equipment. Hewitt was selected to represent the Jefferson County School System at the State Fair. Under the direction of Miss 'l'yler, a splendid exhibit was planned and carried out. Our booth was awarded first place. Hewitt is very much excited over the progress made on the stadium which will seat 3,000 people and which will be equipped for a full athletic program. Several new badly needed classrooms will also be added. Hewitt is a member of the Southern Association of High Schools and thus offers outstanding educational advantages. Our dances. teas, and other social functions pro- vide opportunites for good social adjustment. Our chorus, band. and athletic teams are organizations which teach us not only self-reliance, but real group spirit. In short. we are proud of Hewitt High School.
