i Growing Together Remember how frightened we were that very first day? So many new faces and places how could we stay? But the days became weeks and we became accustomed to this place Each new morning brought a smile from a new friendly face. As the weeks turned into months, we found we could depend on each other. We made close relationships, just like sisters and brothers. Now our months have turned into years, we’ve shared our laughter as well as our tears. Yes, we’ve shared our joys as well as our sorrows but it’s time for us to leave and face new tommorrows. We know we’ll make it, we have to, we better. After we spent all those years sharing and caring and growing together. Anita Brown ; J HEUVELTON CENTRAL SCHOOL DISTRICT BOX 375 HEUVELTON, NEW YORK 13654 Phone 344-2414 Town of Oswegatchie, DePeyster, Macomb, DeKalb, Lisbon, Canton BOARD OF EDUCATION Lawrence S. Ames, Superintendent Alfred Nichols, Pres. David Kingsley, Vice Pres. John Felt Daniel Barr Shirley Christensen Kenneth Chambers John Zeh John Cerio, Clerk George Berkley, an 18th Century Bishop of Clogne in his writing “Can Love Be Controlled by Advice”, wrote: “Youth we can have but today We may always find time to grow old.” These lines point out poignantly and succinctly the irreversible paths people follow as they grow together with others of their generation. Years come and go and you will grow together. People come and peo- ple go and you continue to grow together. As time ticks away your youth of the present, you will find time to grow older and wiser with each day of your future with your friends and acquaintances. No one escapes the growing process or the aging process. Thus while you are in the flower of your youth, try to grow in all ways possible — academically, socially and athletically. As you grow together with your family, friends and acquaintances you’ll be prepared to enjoy more fully the fruits of your labor. When you reach those Golden Years of retirement, the pleasures of those years may well be the result of “Growing Together.” Lawrence S. Ames Superintendent of Schools Dedication to Mr. James Ray Peacock We, the Class of 1983, are missing a dear friend — a man who over the years always showed faith in our generation — a man who considered us better prepared to face the problems of the world than previous generations. He believed that we have learned from the past, are enjoying the present and have confidence in the future. His logic, his sense of humor, his willingness to serve, his sincere personal interest made him a man whom we’ll long remember as a true friend. To Mr. James Ray Peacock we dedicate our yearbook. From all of us, Mr. Peacock, Thank You and “Requiescat in Pace.” Special Dedication to Dale From the Seniors Dale was our friend. He had a special way of livening up any room he walked into and making everyone smile and laugh with his good mood and continuous humor. When Dale was around it seemed like no one was unhappy or bored. We miss this quality of Dale’s personality because when we find ourselves down and feeling bad, his smiling face and laughs are no longer there. Many of us looked up to Dale as a big brother, someone who was willing to help whenever we needed him. Dale was one of us. We shared many great times. Those times still exist but they are different now. We are still a class but someone is missing. Everything seems strange without Dale’s vitality and laughter to fill the air. A day does not go by that he is not in our thoughts and we will remember him forever. Dale will always be in our memories and we will forever treasure his friendship and the many unforget- table times he helped to make. Also, we will hold onto the thought that he is still a part of the Class of ‘83’, sharing these memories with us. 5 Appreciation to Faculty and Advisors We, the Class of 1983, would like to extend our sincere appreciation to the faculty of Heuvelton Central School. Throughout the past twelve years, you have taught, encouraged, and helped us to realize that by striving for the best, we could achieve our goals. We would like to also express our gratitude to our three class advisors — Mr. Dezell, Miss Seymour, and Mr. Goccia. These faculty members were willing to take on the responsibility of being Senior Class Ad- visors. A special thanks is in order to Mr. Dezell, not only for being our class advisor, but also for assuming the yearbook advisorship. It is difficult to single out every member of the faculty throughout our Elementary, Junior and Senior High years, you have helped prepare us for our futures. So again we would like to extend our appreciation to everyone. BOARD OF EDUCATION — Sitting: Dr. Zeh, Mrs. Christensan, Mr. Nichols, President; Mr. Chambers. Standing: Mr. Kingsley, Vice President; Mr. Felt, Mr. Barr We the Class of 1983, would like to extend our thanks to Mr. Ames for all the support he has given us through the years. He always has a smile and a kind word to say to help us through the worst of days as well as the best of days. We have had many problems and he has helped us solve them. He has always found the time to listen and his door is always open to anyone. Mr. Ames, the Senior Class thanks you. 7 Director of Elementary Education: Mr. Balfour Xi Business Administrator: Mr. Covey Guidance Department: Mr. Timmerman, Guidance Director and Vice Principal; Mr. Cerio, Guidance Counselor Yearbook Photographer: Betty Steele fcjnfol - Math Department: Mr. Lynch, Mr. Barlow, Mr. Martin History Department: Mr. Harradine, Mr. Putney, Mr. Hanagan Language Department: Mrs. Kelly Miss Bertrand Mrs. Fay Mrs. Derrigo Elementary Reading Department: Mrs. Eustis Miss Foti Remedial Department: Mr. Lewandowski, Mr. Timmerman Home Ecomonics Department: Mrs. Day Industrial Arts Agriculture Department: Mr. Foultz, Mr. Corey Resource Department: Mrs. Clark, Miss Baker Health Department: Mrs. Barlow, Mrs. Marek Resource Department: Mr. Phillips Speech Therapist: Mrs. Ressman Music Department: Mr. Poulton, Miss Seymour 11 Physical Education Department: Mr. Tehonica, Mrs. Putney Art Department: Mrs. Hartman High School Librarian: Mrs. Kenny Physical Education Department: Mr. LaRock, Mr. Conklin Driver Education Department: Mr. Jones Elementary Librarian: Miss Pierce 12 SECRETARIAL STAFF — Mrs. Knowlton, Mrs. Kennedy, Mrs. Head Secretary: Mrs. Poulton Remington, Mrs. Poulton, Mrs. Freeman CAFETERIA STAFF — Sitting: Mrs. Sterling, Mrs. Young, Mrs. Murdock, Mrs. Wainwright. We have all gone our separate ways, but have return- ed for our tenth year reunion. The party is being held at the famous hotel-restaurant, Chez Heuvelton, run by our own SHELLY DOWNING. DESIREE PARMETER and DARLENE PIKE also work here as waitresses. First to arrive is psychologist BECKY VOLANS, who wanted to arrive early to evaluate our class’ pro- gress, for her thesis. Becky is followed by the enter- tainment for tonight, punk-rocker, GEORGE WELLS. George is accompanied by his one-man band, MIKE HERRON and his four personal hair dressers, SHER- RIE KIMBLE, SANDY DOWNING, MARY GILBERT and BONNIE FOSTER, all of whom are responsible for that fabulous punk hairdo George is sporting these days. Next to arrive is LESLIE BAILEY, who took time off from her nuclear bomb building just to attend the reunion. Right behind Leslie is our own class couple, BRAD BURNHAM and SHELLEY BARTLETT, who have finally mar- ried. Shelley has made time for both a family and career and is now night-time manager of Bennett’s Supermarket chain. She is not our only classmate who has made it in managing. Here comes the new co- managers of Eastman-Kodak, THERESA HAUS and SHEILA MONTROY. Behind them are their many secretaries SUSAN SEARS, JULIE SELLERS, DANA RICE, ANITA BROWN, JUNE LAYNG and MARY PREMO. LORI HUTTON used to work for Theresa and Sheila, but quit her job to become our new U.S. President JOHN McCORMICK’s personal secretary. Just coming through the door are husband and wife, MARTY MILLS and LISA SWAN. Marty is now the owner of Anheuser-Busch, Inc. and has generously donated the beverages for our reunion. People are now arriving in droves. In just walked oil tycoon LARRY BEAULIEU and millionaire playboys, RON HARTSHORN and RICK ROGERS. Behind them are our three housewives, MIMI YOUNG THOMPSON, JULIE BENJAMIN ROOK and JENNY WRIGHT MacCAULEY. As we can see, Mimi is with child and barely made it here, becuase she is due any day now. Farmers BOB CHAMBERS and TIM KELLEY have just arrived, along with veterinarian KANDY DIETSCHWEILER and her assistants MICHELE CUTWAY and PATTY CARR. Not everybody has ar- rived yet, but world-known chefs, ROBERT WOOD- WARD and JOSEPH MURDOCK have begun to serve the luscious meal they have prepared for us. Over in the corner, we see journalist SANDY WILLARD sitting, taking down material for her next novel. Sandy’s last novel sold over a million copies. Oh my God!!!! Mimi has just gone into labor. It’s a good thing nurses COLLEEN BARLOW, TJ THOMAS, MIKE GRIFFITH, JUDY BAYNE and their assistants ARLENE O’MARAH and ANN PRO- SSER are here or we wouldn’t know what to do. Looking around we see that during the commotion, president of IBM, CORRINE MOORE, has just arriv- ed with her three top computer operators, JANELLE TOOMEY, PETER GILBERT and MARY TRIMM. A large group has just come through the door and as we look closer, we see that it is autobody majors DAN BROWN, JOHN EUSTIS, TONY DOERR, CHRIS HAYES, JIM McCREADY, MATT MEUTON, CHUCK PARMETER and CHRIS WILLARD, who are all collaborating to build the world’s first water- powered car. SEAN ARQUETTE, JON GILBERT and JOEL GILBERT just arrived and went right over to discuss their idea for solar tractors with Bob and Tim. We’ve just received news that KIM MURDOCK and JAMIE PATTERSON cannot attend because they are deeply engrossed in their research to find a cure for acne. It seems that almost everybody is here, but wait, here comes dental hygienist JANET ROSS and physical education teacher, KYLE SHARP. Just behind them are carpenter TERRY SIMMONS and forest ranger TONYA SMITHERS. Famous detective JOHN PHILLIPS has finally arrived. John has just solved a murder case, which has baffled the police for over thirty years. The lights have just gone off, but there is no need to worry. Electrical experts CLIFF AYEN, CURT HAMMOND and LARRY ARM- STRONG will be able to fix them in a second. Well, we’ve now been sitting here, in the dark, for over three hours. It seems our experts are having a little trouble fixing the lights. There goes the lights on final- ly and we see that physical therapist CAROL BROWN has just walked in, late as usual. Now that everybody is here, oh, wait, we forgot, our three ad- visors haven’t arrived yet. Here they come now. We hear that MR. DEZELL and MISS SEYMOUR have finally married after courting for ten years. They’ve come to the party to celebrate their happy union with their seventy-one most favorite people. It is also rumored that our other advisor, MR. GOCCIA is about to receive the Nobel Prize for science this year. Mr. Goccia has now quit teaching, after twenty-two years in the profession, to manage the Yankees to see if he can get a winning team. The party can now real- ly get in full swing. As we look around the room, we see that every member of the CLASS OF 1983 has become a success. We’ve all reached our goals and made something of ourselves, something most people doubted we could ever do. 19 Anthony J. Doerr Bonnie S. Foster Robert K. Chambers Michele A. Cutway Kandace L. The time we have is from when the tide does ebb Until it just comes rolling back in. Even these anticipated moments May be shortened by a breeze, By some other change in weather, Or even by somebody’s sneeze. Time, time has quickly passed us by And separately we must fly Towards our own known destinations And all our unforeseen obligations. Struggling against all oceans Struggling against all seas Struggling for our lives my friends And all we long to be. We shall climb aboard our ships And release then into the sea, Seeking all those whom we loved All a part of past memories. It is a small, small world And perhaps we’ll meet again. But who is to say how And who is to say when, Tell me when. It just seems all I end up Doing is: Struggling against all oceans Struggling against all seas Struggling for our lives my friends And all we long to be, We long to be Yes, we long to be. So goodbye, goodbye my friends.
