We feel that he deserves this honor because of the genuine concern he has for all of us. Mr. Lynch always seems to have unlimited time to talk to us and he is always there when we need him. Whenever we have a problem, his door is always open and he is willing to listen and then offer us some helpful advice which would direct us along the right path. His humor can bring a smile to the face of a depressed individual. Without Mr. Lynch, our class would not be as financially sound as we now are. He helped us raise money by selling candy and encouraged class mem- bers to participate in various class activities. Mr. Lynch has a unique talent for getting people to work to their limit. He never allows us to neglect our studies, which is truly appreciated. When prom time rolled around he helped us organize and even decorate. Mr. Lynch touches the hearts of all of us in his own way. We will never forget the time spent under his guidance. We just cannot express in words the gratitude and appreciation we feel towards him. From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you, Mr. Lynch. Only somewhat dif- ferent from the one we had years ago. For now we’re at a longer starting line. And in some ways it is the same type of a beginning as we are again nervous. But then we were meeting strangers, now we’re leaving our circle of friends. With sad- ness the 70’s are gone, but a new decade is open. Wide open for us to take a stride into the fast moving days ahead. Our school days are gone, this time for good. They said it’s not another vacation. The familiar fall faces will now be unseen. The time is now to take a deep breath and step into the current of life that moves us swiftly ahead. Yesterday was great but the years passed us by. But there’s no need for alarm, just turn again because it’s not the end ... it’s a new beginning. 6 Vicki Testani Robert Paul Barr Gary D. And some times I wonder — I wonder why I am living ... The answer is the friends I have come to love so very much .. . The many secrets are in my heart... As are the many good times we’ve had together. They are locked in my heart with The key to open them, to relive Them again, and again ... To have more good times and laugh At the jokes and cry at the problems Though I am afraid to remember ... Afraid to relive them for fear they Will fade away and leave me empty .. . They seem so close and within reach, Yet when I grasp out for them, They are untouchable ... Remember me as someone who valued Your friendship more than everything in this world .. . I give to you my love and understanding, my friend,... my life. ERICH FROMM New Beginnings Every day is a new beginning in the lives of us all. It is the start of another page of an interesting chapter in the book of life of which we are the leading characters. New opportunities, new ideas, new advances are made available to each of us with new beginnings. If each one of us is willing to take advantage of these new adventures being presented to us we shall find that these new beginnings will lead to greater peace of mind, greater satisfaction and more success than we might realize for our own personal well being. New beginnings come to those who take proper advantage of these new beginnings. New beginnings mark the end of past happenings and may prevent us from falling prey to the words of Shakespeare that: “All our yesterdays have lighted fools the way to dusty death! Out, out brief candle life is but a walking shadow, a poor player who struts and frets his hour upon the stage and then is heard no more!” New beginnings can keep us on front and center stage during our lifetime which if lived to the fullest will not relegate us anonymity. To the Class of 1980 — graduation may well be such a new beginning with many more to follow. 26 Administrators: Lawrence S. Ames, District Principal Robert J. There are so few in the world like him. As a barber and bus driver he added a sort of warmth to people’s lives. His smile lives on in many hearts. His friendship, too, will be long remembered by many. We, The Class of 1980, are glad to have known you Paul McDerment, and to have shared a part of your life. The regular season concluded with the Bull- dogs slipping past defending champion Edwards, 1-0 into a 5-2- 1 record which matched Ham- mond. Coach Stephanie Putney’s team entered the contest needing a win after being defeated 5-1 by Ham- mond on Wednesday. The two teams will now square off again on Tuesday in a playoff for the league title and league’s first seed into the Section 10 playoffs on Saturday. The contest will be staged at 4 p.m. at the OFA girls field with the Heuvelton and Lisbon boys squar- ing off in a similar contest being staged simultaneously at the adjoining OFA boys field. In the other action on the final day of the girls soccer season, on Friday, Morristown slipped past Lisbon, 1-0. Miss McDerment’s goal capped off a fine pressure-packed per- formance by the Bulldogs. “Our halfbacks maintained control of the midfield and I think that was the key to the game,” said Coach Putney whose girls avenged a 5-0 loss to the Hornets shattered ear- lier in the season. Miss McDerment scored off a penalty kick by Mary Ames and Barb Scheneller stopped nine shots to make it stand lonely. The Heuvelton Coach cited her halfbacks Kim Johnson, Angie Ashworth and Beannie Mack and Miss McDerment on the front line as key performers in the win, Melinda Whitmarsh finished with three saves for the Green Hornets with Tracy Whitmarsh anchoring a stern Edwards’ defense. In the Morristown-Lisbon finale Corrina Langtry’s goal broke up a stingy netminders’ duel between the Rockets’ Deanna Eggleson and the Knights’ Rene Robinson. Bulldog Girls Roll On HEUVELTON — Breaking loose for seven runs in the sixth inning the Heuvelton girls softball team posted their fourth straight Valley League win of the season on Tuesday. The unbeaten Bulldogs decisioned Lisbon, 16-7 in the only league softball or baseball action to escape a rainout. Beannie Mack and Vicky Testani each rapped two singles to lead the support of winning pitcher Sue Perry who fanned six batters in the con- test. Dorothy Stevens doubled while Lisa Sellers drew three walks and scored three times. Also hitting safely for the league front-runners were: Miss Perry, Colleen Barlow, Kim Johnson and Lyn Rice. The Bulldogs’ bol- stered their offense with 27 stolen bases. Tammi LaFlair, Kathy Mee and Cathy Hyde all stroked two hits for Lis- bon with Rene Robinson going the distance on the mound. Heuvelton Stars Head All-Valley League Team MORRISTOWN — Ricky Barlow and Vicki Testani of Heuvelton were named as the Players of the Year to head the Valley League Girls and Boys Soccer All-Star Team. Barlow led the Bulldogs to the boys soccer championship with Coach John Tehonica's team taking the title in a playoff game with Lisbon. Miss Testani was a key performer as Coach Stephanie Putney’s squad tied for first place in the regular season before losing to Hammond in a playoff game. Joining Barlow in the boys all-star selections were: Mike Rogers, Ed Siwarski, Rod Bush and Bob Scott of the Bulldogs championship team; Scott Akins, Steve Knight and Greg Dillingham of Lisbon who tied for first place in the regular sea- son; Paul Spilman of Morristown and Mike O’Hern, Ken Davison and Vern Davi- son of Edwards. Hammond’s girls championship team earned five all-star selections in the per- son of Diane Pitcher, Terri Lewis, Robin Gilmer, Bev Ceresoli and Noreen Demick while Miss Testani and Beannie Mack represented Heuvelton. Carolyn Colburn, Deanne Eggleson and Corinna Langtry of Morristown were selected along with Cindy Gotham, Chris Bullock and Melinda Whitmarsh of Edwards and Renee Robinson of Lisbon. The two all-star teams were selected by a vote of the league coaches. 74 iiiiimiii-iimi-T -■ 9.M V heuveltoh Left Row: Janet Simms, Janice Simms, Deb McDerment, Kathy Mack, Mary Ames. FORESHADOW 1990 It is the year 1990 and our class tenth year reunion is taking place. The first to arrive is Paul Drummond, owner of a huge dairy farm in the Northeast. Next we hear the clump of hooves and without turning around we know it’s Angie Ashworth, arriving on her horse. Angie is now the best known woman jockey in the U.S. Our happy Mother of the Year the former Punkin Benson is the next to arrive. Punkin is the proud mother of twelve children with one on the way. Soon to arrive is Bush, Barlow, and Kirby, associates in their own successful accounting firms. Within the firm, Rick handles the facts, Rod handles the figures, and Scott handles the parties. Quite the set-up isn’t it? Next we welcome Conductor-composer Lee Livingston of the New York Symphony Orchestra. Lee arrived in his new “Batmobile,” carrying (of course) his trombone. As we further reminisce about the fun times we turn to see Jeff Smithers arriving. Jeff is a prosperous dairy farmer who has taken cover and enlarged the former Drummond Dairy farm. Paul had to start out from scratch, but he too is doing well. Photographer Dan Florin arrives now with racecar driver Dean Phillips. Dan is looking around for Wanda Willard, a lawyer, who on the side does cover photos for Playboy magazine. Dan hopes to earn some extra money if he can find her. Jane Woodward, owner of a dance studio in California, comes next. Everyone is amazed to see Jane’s fox fur and Rolls Royce. Jane brought Doreen Warren back from Hollywood with her. Doreen is a successful singer and doing well with her latest recording now in the Top Ten. Over in the corner is Tammy Thompson, who has followed in her mother’s footsteps and become an elementary school teacher. She is talking with Patty Hilborne and Kathy Mitchell, also elementary teachers. By the looks of things they are doing their lesson in crayons. Those elementary kids have really gotten to them. Dr. Edwin Siwarski is the next to pull up. Ed has become a successful dentist. Astronaut Bob Barr, who came back from Mars to be here with us today, is busy discussing the basics of aerospace dynamics with scientist Jeff Johnston. There are ooo’s and ahh’s as our class servicemen arrive in their uniforms. All eyes are toward the door as in walk Dan Merrill and Rick Howes. Dan and Lee Griffith, who arrived earlier, also look good in their Marine Corps Uniforms. After everyone has calmed down, our attention turns again toward the door where architectural engineer, Mark Brouilette, and his longtime friend, lawyer, Jeff Knowlton, have just stepped in. Right behind all those men, arrive our class nurses, Carla Thompson and Vicki Chambers. Vicki finally got out of working in the nursing home and has gone pediatrics. Quite a change isn’t it? I don’t think anyone can quite believe how much the class of 1980 has accomplished. Over at the refreshment stand we see Grant Besio, who has sneaked in the back way and is attempting to spike the punch. Grant should know that the punch is already spiked! Rae Rice is here, too. Rae is on the U.S. Women’s Softball Team, and has learned not to throw the bat. She trav- els with the team and has a man waiting in every stadium. Our data processors, Suzy Paro, Robin McLaughlin, and Donna Hand have managed to get here too. The three of them are busy discussing the ups and downs, and the ins and outs of processing data with professional waitress and part-time comedian, Lori Daniel. We look across the room to see a familiar quartet of smiling faces. Debbie McDerment, Kim Johnson, Beanie Mack, and Vicki Testani are talking over old times. Debbie is currently a medical receptionist, Kim is a private secretary, Beanie is a physi- cal education teacher, and Vicki an unemployed art major. Next to arrive are the owners and operators of the Simms Corporation, Janet and Janice. Robin Todd and Lori Beaulieu arrive together, They are the elite of Depey- ster. Lori has taken over the Depeyster General Store and Robin is her secretary. The class surgical technologist, Kellie Bell has arrived. Kellie could have danced her way to fame and fortune, but she chose the easy route ... surgical technology. Laurie Richer follows Kellie in. Laurie is a clinical psychologist living in Texas. Bill Brabant comes in next, he had hoped to get here earlier, but had problems at Brabant Electric. Bill, who majored in air conditioning technology and started his own company, has become a millionaire and is living on Long Island. With a good percentage of the class now here, bets are being made that Andrea Putman will be the last to arrive. Odds are being set when another car pulls up. It’s Roberta Morrow, Fashion Designer. Roberta is modeling one of her own dress designs. Behind Roberta is Sandy Stiles. She has just come back from California to be with us. The number left is getting smaller when Allen Kelly gets here. Allen is a successful IBA salesman and owner of the fourth generation Kelly Farm. Sirens are ringing as Gywn Barber, a Five-Star General, arrives with her police escort. Gary Beaulieu, too, has arrived. Gary was a real eye-opener when he pulled up in his sports car. He has been busy designing and customizing cars and vans in California. World renowned chef Kathy Brenno is here now and so that leaves two people Linda Johnson and Andrea. Oh look, there is a car coming up the road. It’s Linda 94 Johnson, an art teacher, of course that leaves Andrea. We’ve all heard that Andrea is close to becoming president at Robin Hood Flour, after her major in grain milling science. Well, we’ll close for now while we watch for Andrea to arrive. I think that may be her coming up the road.
