1 ... WiiSm The symbol which has been chosen to represent the 1968 Heuveltonian is the human hand. The hand is a thing of wonder: It can build, or it can destroy. It can help in teaching, and it is invaluable in learning. It may work good or evil. This yearbook is the story of our school and of its many busy hands. We, the class of '68, dedicate this Heuveltonian to Mr. William Lynch, who has been an unfailing friend and counselor throughout our four years of high school. Mr. Lynch has never been too busy to spend his time helping us to think. Talking with him has helped us to see many troublesome situations more clearly, and listening to his urgings has often pushed us to greater efforts toward achievement. We thank you, Mr. Lynch, for the advice, encouragement, and understanding which you have always offered us. LAWRENCE S AMES PRINCIPAL- MESSAGE PRINCIPALS President Kennedy in his inaugural address said, Ask not what your country can do for you- ask what you can do for your country. A primary need of our affluent nation in today’s world is to cultivate in our future citizens an appreciation of the responsibilities which are theirs because they are Americans. Your personal education which is vitally affected by the attitudes of parents, of teachers, and of friends, can and must develop such appreciations if you are to meet the challenges of our tormented world. Your future vocation or profession will produce its own elite group which will be judged worthy citizens on the basis of its attitudes and its performance in fulfilling its duties toward neighbor and country. It is my hopeful wish that each of you will always perform at your level best, and that you will accept your responsibilities willingly so that you may continue to reap the benefits of our society. No one can be expected to do more—no one should want to do less. Mr. Wesley Stitt Guidance Counselor Vice Principal Mr. Robert J. In 1963-64 the team lost only one match and took second place in both leaque and tournament play. The 1964-65 and 1965-66 wrestlinq teams went undefeated and won first place both years. Last year's team won ten matches and lost two to win first place in the leaaue ana in. They also placed second in the tournament, losinq to Norwood-NorfoIk who joined the Northern Leaque this year. Heuvelton had four individual champions in the Osweqatchie Leaque last year. These were Dick MeBroom, who was a I so a section 10 champion, Rill Dashnaw, Bob Chapin, and Tom MacKay, all of whom were then Seniors. Clifton Cook and Richard MacKay were voted co-captains of the 1967-1968 wrestlinq team. The team, although weakened by the loss of last year's four champions, gained strength week by week. The team has high hopes of winning this year's tournament, which will be held at Heuvelton, led by undefeated wrestlers Vance Smithers, Ray Johnson, and Jim Lytle. I am pleased with the proqress of this year's team, re- building after losing nearly half of last year's varsity. The lack of size and the inability, at times, to put the ball in the basket brought the team to defeat, but the members never gave up and always gave one hundred per cent on the court and during practice.
