His winning personality and devout attitude will always be remembered. 2 rMntitmt 11—Hinimiiii ii i iiiiiimmi P'Ull Mr. Donald Cousineau We, the Senior Class, dedicate the 1962 Heuveltonian to Mr. Donald Cousineau, history teacher at Heuvelton since 19f?5 . Since his arrival in Heuvelton, he has been active in community affairs and he is a member of the American Legion. You have been pro- vided with opportunities to develop better understanding of your abilities, limitations, and sense of value. This has led you to realize that each person is a unique in- dividual with a particular make up. In your acceptance of knowledge pro- vided you over the past years in school, many of you are planning to continue your education in college and other institutions of higher learning. I wish to extend my congratulations to those who have received recognition for outstanding scholastic achievements and to all members of this graduating class who have chosen their vo- cations for the future. To members of this Class of 1962, I commend you for the untiring effort put forth in preparing this HEUVELTOHTAN and know that you will enjoy turning back through the pages and reminiscing your school days Principal BOARD OF EDUCATION Mr. Howard Hutchinson M . Our first order of business was the election of officers. We chose the following to be our helmsmen: President- Jerry Manford, Vice-President- Kathy VanOrnum, Secretary- Linda Paquette, Treasurer- Raymond Ripa, Student Council- Delberta Moore, Sergeant at Arms- Bill Kypreos• Our Freshmen year passed all too rapidly and then we were Sophmores. Our Sophmore class was aptly led by President- Jim Sovie, Vice-President- Ted Wiencek, Secretary- Kathy VanOrnum, Treasurer- Maxine Bice, Student Council- Linda Law, Reporter- Delberta Moore, Sergeant at Arms- Bill Kypreos, and our advisor was Mr. Boatwright. We weren't really concerned about money-making projects until our Junior year. Then right after we elected the following: President- Maxine Bice, Vice-President- Rodney Wells, Secretary- Marsha Hanna, Treasurer- Sheila Putman, Student Council- Tom Stalder, Sergeant at Arms- Bill Kypreos and our advisor- Mr. Cousineau, we plunged into various money-making endeavors. We had a successful food sale and car wash. Then we Juniors sponsored a series of record hops from which we raised money for our Prom. May 19 was the gala event and the gym certainly was beautiful as our theme Abound the World was portrayed with scenes from many famous places. The Varsity 16 from Potsdam State supplied the dreamy music and it will long be one of our outstanding memories. At long last we became Seniors. The first order of business was the elec- tion of the following officers: President- Maxine Bice, Vice-President- Ted Wiencek, Secretary- Mary White, Treasurer- Sheila Putman, Sergeant at arms- Bill Kypreos, and Mr. Cousineau as advisor. Then we began many projects. Our record hops furnished welcome recreation as well as financial Profit. Our Winter Carnival, Babes in Toyland , was undertaken with the Juniors as our co-workers. Me held many events at the new community ice rink and the highlight of events was the Winter Ball. A large crowd danced to music provi- ded by the Varsity 16 from Potsdam. The weeks and months .rolled on so rapidly that suddenly graduation was at hand. Our graduation-the moment we had waited four years for-marked the end of our high school years and also marked the end of carefree childhood days. Now we were adults in an adult world. Elaine Pierce BABY PICTURES SENIOR CLASS WILL We, the Senior Class, being of rather dubious mental condition at this stage of the game will and bequeath the following: I, Linda Law, leave one slightly -used diamond-studded dog’s collar (the maid won’t let me keep it) to anybody who needs it badly enough to claim it I, (rail Ormsbee, leave my well-developed, cultured, charming personality to my borish, backwoods sister, Pat. I, David Todd, leave my great love for playing poker to Mr. Cousineau and pals. Witness: Signed: Elaine Pierce John Woodward Senior Class Prophecy I wonder what we will all be doing ten years from now in 1972« It was then that I decided to take down the crystal ball, dust it off, and try to discover the answer to that question I see that Trudy Blount has been granted her wish She is now an Army nurse working way down South (in Antartica). Alas I What's this?-------Gail Ormsbee is still coming back to pester Mr Beebe. Well, Gail always was persistent and she never started something she couldn't finish Congratulations to Mary Whitei She has just been named The Outstand- ing Secretary of the United States for 1972. She is now a member of the 1973 Olympic Secretarial Team. Elaine Pierce is a math teacher now and she's still lugging a big pile of books around. Some people just can't break a habit Who's this in a Mew York Giant football uniform? Why it's none other than our own Jim BarlowI Will miracles never cease? And now to Darkest Africa--------Goodness I It's Marsha Hanna teaching the natives Chemistry and Advanced Science and also trying to Christianize the natives on the side-line Now I see a crowded room somewhere on a college campus. Who from our number is still trying to get through? Why the science professor is John Woodward. And what's this?------an assistant to write on the blackboard? I gues3 John was so busy getting his doctorate that he didn't have time to improve his writing. Who's this? It's Sheila Putman busy making clothing for her brood of five. All those high school and college Home Ec courses are coming in handy now Robert Tuggey is one of the valued scientists at General Electric. In his spare time he coaches neighborhood basketball and baseball teams. Bob never could live without sports. I see an artist now painting the beautiful places of the United States. Well if it isn't Carol Finley on summer vacationi The rest of the crystal ball suddenly became cloudy so I'm not sure if she's a free-lance artist or an art teacher. Who's this efficient WAC sitting at a big desk? Why it's Sylvia Rhodes who has just earned her second stripe I Probably her friendly personality helped. Here's a successful business man who owns five garages and three repair shops. Say it's Ted Wiencek and he is also on special call to a big air- plane factory in case any of their machines need fixing. Puttering was Ted's hobby and now it's his business. Eat at Linda's Pizza Place-3miles, the sign said Could it be?—----- Yes it is Linda Law-and her husband operate a restaurant and serve very delicious pizza Now here's a sad case. Eric Pellegrino owns his own doughnut shop but he's eating up all the profits. Poor RickU Anyone want their hair washed, set, or cut? Maxine Bice is owner and op- erator of her own highly successful beauty salon. How about some cut-rates for us. Max? Heavens, I never thought I would see the day Jim Sovie would wear stilts I It seems that Jim, although he never quite made the 6'5 height requirement of the Boston Celtics, is an exceptional player on their squad 26 Was that Shirley Yaddow in that sleek Cadillac convertible that just went by? That must have been the dreamy engagement present R. W. gave herI Say who’s this? Oh it’s Tim Ashley who has built up a large business near a big university by typing term papers. We understand Tim has a long waiting list and his services are as much in demand as they were at H. C. S. Kathy VanOmum is head dietician at a large New York City hospital. We hear that the hospital has been always overcrowded since Kathy started working there. It must be the good meals. I see a forest and two hard-working Forest Rangers. Why it's Alfred LaRue and David Todd and they both have permanent creases In their backs I I ess they boasted that the two of them could plant more trees in one day than a machine could. All that back-breaking work and they only won by five trees I Gloria Link is now happily married. Is it anyone we know, Gloria? Ronald Mandigo now has a job as farm manager for the King ranch in Texas. Ron, is it true that you developed an air-conditioned stilt so that the Texas weather doesn't bother you? There's a gold ring on Mary Martin's left hand and she's happily married to—-— ------------could it be Elmer? Well look who's working In a modern up-to-date government laboratory on a desert island in the Pacifici It's Larry Steele. Apparently Uncle Sam values Larry's research highly but is afraid to turn Larry lose in a lab on the main- land. Here's a sun-tanned, attractive tourist just departing from a big ocean liner docked in New York. Now that she has taken off the dark glasses I realize that it’s none other than Delberta Moore, world renowned traveler. Bill Kypreos is a hard-working young business executive and doing quite well. The crystal ball says that Bill Is married to the boss's daughter, and it claims that's why he's doing so well. I disagree. Bill always was a hardwork- ing individual. Who's this managing a fashion shop? It's Judy Knowlton and she's just leaving on another buying trip to New York and Paris. Her business must be do- ing xjell. Say here's Tom Stalder with a Yul Brenner haircut. It seems. Tom was work- ing part time in a barber shop because he could not figure out how a barber can give a perfectly flat brush cut. Apparently he tried to do a flat-top on him- self and you already know the sad results. The big white well-kept house and bam over there belongs to Carl Cutway who has all registered cattle. They tell me Carl has won all sorts of model farming awards• One of America's biggest ships has just set another record. Admiral T. W. McCoy, commanding officer, said in an interview today that he was very satisfied with the results of the record run. Bob Wallace has combined his love of Math and his great patience and is now pulling teeth and selling insurance for a living. Now running his own print shop, Carl Duford has every type of printed material imaginable. We understand he also has every color of printer's ink on his fingers now Jim Alguire and Ed Lanoto are now working very hard. 0 crystal ball, be- come. clear and tell me what kind of work Jim Ed are in. Oh dear, the bat- tery to my crystal ball just burned out and I m still In the dark about Jim's and Ed's lines of work Elaine Pierce, Literary Editor 27 27 ,0-0 iiiip I . Our first project was the successful sale of class pins which boosted our treasury. Later we participated in The Winter Carnival with the other classes and finally we held a food sale, one of the most profitable ventures of the year. Even though it was some time before we could conquer non-league teams, we held our own with the best in our league. At the half- way mark we had lost one league game by a one point margin and were then tied with Lisbon for first place. Af- ter playing them we were all alone in first place for a week until we met Madrid. When they defeated us it left a three-way tie with only three days left before play-offs. As a result we accepted the three-way tie and each school received a trophy. In both semi-finals and sectionals, we were de- feated by Madrid and Chateguay respec- tively. We were fortunate to have Harry Woodside and Jim Sovie chosen as All-Stars from our school. Since Harry was the first man chosen, he was consi- dered the best in the league. On April 7 fifteen band members partic- ipated in the St. Lawrence Valley League Concert at Hammond. In the NYSSMA. at Adams, New York, there were ten members from Heuvelton. On May 18 we held our local concert. We ended the year by playing at commencement exercises. This year also a Junior Band was organized. It has more than twenty members, some of which have had only four to six months of lessons, and is the first time they have played together as a group, They will gradually be integrated into Senior Band, CHORUS This year the chorus has been well represented at area concerts. The school-and community projects have -been very worthwhile to all. Last sunsaer the FFA weed sprayer was used by members and local-farmers on over 200 acres to increase yields and quality of -crops.- We participated in the judging - contests at-the Gouverneur-fai-r and some -showed cattle and other products. The Worth County judging meet was attended at Canton ATI and also the Chap- ter meeting and Forum Contests were entered. These contests help members to acquire skills and gain confidence. At the county speaking contest held at Heuvelton.Carl Cutway placed third. Through the many local, county, and state educational trips and meetings, the FFA boys had an opportunity to better prepare themselves for college, a job after high school, or the armed services.
