Outstanding Americans have expressed in writing and on television their beliefs regarding the purposes we have had, continue to have and which guide us in the future. These people have challenged the thinking of many others. You are now ready to assume the obligations of an active citizenship and it is important that you do this willingly and with an earnest mind. Public life should be among the highest and noblest ambitions. To promote the general welfare is to achieve the greatest of all benefits to-one's country. The responsibility of leadership rests upon the liberally educated. With the advance of new research and new planning we all hope that each will develop his or her potential to cope with the problems of this fast changing world. I extend my congratulations to you as members of the graduating class and know that this Ileuveltonian will in the future refresh you with memories of yesteryear. Our fresh- man year found Cora Glidden as President, aided by Betty Rounds, Vice-President, Sharon Kingston, Secretary and Claudia Wilson, Treasurer. Mr. Boatwright was our class advisor. We soon learned the correct proceedure for our class meetings and launched a campaign of money making that lasted our four years of High School. We ended our freshman year with a picnic at Lazy River, a day of fun which we will all remember. When our hard working class came back to start our sophomore year, we had lost Ronnie Raven in a tragic accident which shocked all his friends and class- mates . Realizing the need for much money for our pending Senior Trip, we set our goal and money making projects were among our main thoughts. Our class offices were amply filled by Cora Glidden as President; Richard Mayhew, Vice-President; Bererly Cutway, Secretary; and Betty Rounds as Treasurer. Mrs. Hendee was our class advisor. At last in the fall of '59 we were Juniors and among the leaders of our student body. The excitment of ordering our class rings lasted from November to April when they finally arrived. The next month, May, found us working endlessly on preparations for the annual Junior Prom. Our theme was KISMET and thought by all to be beautifully presented. Our King and Queen were Aubrey Duvall and Karen Badger. Their attendants were Brenda Burcume, Princess, and Kenny Chambers, Prince. Our Junior Class was led once again by Cora Glidden as President; Betty Rounds, Vice-President; Beverly Cutway, Secretary; and Claudia Wilson, Treasurer. We re-elected Mrs. Hendee as our advisor and received a great deal of guidance and advice as we had the year before. Finally came the home stretch.1 Seniors at last ! This was our most important and busiest year of High School. For our final year we elected Lee Hutchinson as President; Kenny Chambers, Vice-President; Beverly Cutway, Secretary;- Claudia Wilson and Cora Glidden as Treasurer and Assistant Treasurer. Mr. Carbol and Mr. Petrie amply filled the frustrating job of co-advisors. Our last year was filled with many activities to raise money. We had record hops, suppers, a winter carnival and a lovely Winter Ball. Everyone became very tired of potatoes, salads and dishes before our goal was reached. It seemed as though our musical-dancing interests had been suddenly limited to the Twist . Our goal was finally reached and we were at last ready for our long awaited Senior Trip. The entire student body was saddened by the accident that happened to Beverly Cutway, the Secretary of the Class. Beverly spent several weeks in the hospital, but even at that she still contributed to this yearbook as Art Editor. Many thanks, Bev 1 You can't imagine how beautiful Washington really is until you see it. The huge white buildings, the long steps up the Washington monument, the Capitol, the Museums and our home The Raleigh are among our fondest memories. We were a very tired but very happy class when we reached home. Our tales about the trip have never ceased to be a source of amusement, either to our fellow students or our fellow classmates. Graduation day at last ! All of us had looked forward to this time but now we were looking fondly back to the wonderful years behind us. Were we ready for ti-.e world and our various chosen careers? We hoped so and mentally thanked each person who had worked so hard in preparing us for gradiiation. Each had made Plans to further his education and so the class separated to make new friends and reach a new goal in life. Graduation was a big turning point in all our lives and we wish to thank 17 our parents, teachers and friends for the help in planning our many different careers. Cora Glidden, Literary Editor Bev CuVway JUNIORS As Juniors we elected our officers as follows: President, Maxine Bice ; Vice-President Rodney Wells; Secretary, Marsha Hanna, and Traesurer Shiela Putman. Mr, Cousineau was our class advisor. Our statue for the Winter Carnival was taken from the theme of the movie Giant . It was apparently good since we received third prize on it. Our food sale and car wash was a big success. Class dues were collected before Easter vacation. Primarily our goal for the year was to make our Prom, Around the World , the biggest success ever. This year, as Sophomores, we have had a busy and exciting year. At the beginning of the year we chose our class officers and advisor. As the year bore on we decided to sell H.C.S. sweatshirts and were quite successful. Our ice ststue, portraying The Ten Commandments , received Prize Carnival. Seven of our classmates became members ol the .National Honor Society. We hope to order class rings and to have a class picnic at the end of the year.
