 SENIOR CLASS HISTORY In September of 1956, we embarked 'on our high school careers. Feeling quite self-important, we chose our majors, began to have class meetings and join clubs. We elected as officers for our first year John Chambers, presi- dent; Gilbert Bishop, vice-president; Irene Woodside, secretary; and Roger Morgan, treasurer. Our advisor was Miss Eleanor Rolfe. After scattering for the summer, we returned to H.C.S. the next September to begin the first of cur three years in Homeroom 21. This year we were Soph- omores and old pros . We were capably guided through this year by Alfred Nichols, president; Marilyn Parish, vice-president; Helen Winters, secretary; and Larry Todd, treasurer; and Mr. James as our advisor. We began to inflate our treasury this year by food aales and selling beanies in the school colors. The year was ended with a gala picnic at Lazy River, sharing the expenses with the Freshmen. In September of ’58» we drifted back as knowledgeable and experienced upperclassmen. Our first major activity was choosing our class rings, which we did in November. We lost our class president, Helen Winters, to Lisbon Central, so vice-president Eva Backus stepped in and fulfilled the responsi- bility capably, aided by newly-elected vice-president Terry Ferris, secretary Karen Badger and treasurer Alfred Nichols. Of course, our major project for the year was our prom which took place on May 15th. Naturally we had to expand our treasury to meet the expenses of this project and so we undertook a series of dances, food sales and dinners, aided and abetted by our advisors, Mr. Shannon and Mr. Chisholm. Much time and effort was expended to make our Blue Hawaii a big success and finally it was ready-----complete with grass huts I Now, with fond memories of the last three years, we have toiled as sophis- ticated and world-weary Seniors. We are prepared to set the world aflame------- next year, that is. We had three large projects this year; our yearbook. Winter Carnival and our New York trip. We were ably assisted with our year- book by Mr. Carbol and Mr. Hanagan. Our first order of business was to elect our officers. The results were: Terry Ferris, president; Eva Backus, vice- president; Nancy Bice, secretary; and Alfred Nichols and Larry Todd, co-treas- urers; and Mr. Cousineau and Mr. LaRock, advisors. During the first semester we had a frantic round of money-making activities but right after Christmas we began preparing for our Winter Carnival, which was held the second week of February. We chose Winter Wonderland as our theme and carried it out with story book characters. The carnival lasted four days. We had a record hop, supper, variety show and the grand ball. It was a tremendous success and we had a lot of fun putting it on. During Easter vacation we made the long-awaited trip to New York. This was a thrill which we will not soon forget. We saw Radio City Music Hall, the Statue of Liberty, the U.N. Building, Broadway and all the other famous points of interest. Finally the great day came—June 27th, the day of our graduation. We greeted this day with mingled emotion, for, although the beginning of many wonderful years, it marked the end of our days as carefree children. We now had to face trhe world as adults.

KIO (STUDENT COUNCIL) The Junior Class has enjoyed a very happy and prosperous year. Although our money-making projects were somewhat limited, we managed to accumulate a nice profit on the sale of Christmas cards and refreshments at ball games. One of the biggest thrills of the year was ordering and receiving our class rings. The class voted unanimously for the same style ring. Our year ended in a blaze of glory with the annual Junior Prom on May 20. Our theme, KISMET , was beautifully executed in the decorations for the prom. Joseph Calapari's Orchestra played divinely; the entire evening was just per- fect. We are looking forward to the day when we will become seniors.
