m 9 Will we ever forget the memorable day in September, 1955 when we entered the school doora as exuberant, fun-loving, and ambitious freshmen? Prom our lofty perch we gazed condescendingly up- on the seventh end eighth graders. We were now bona fide members of the high school student body and we were determined to rise and shine. Our first fund-raising projects, selling greeting cards and pens, were successful and our treasury began to grow. To celebrate the conclu- sion of the freshmen year, our class had a wonder ful picnic at Postwood Park. Our officers for th yesr were: Judy Ketcham, president; Sally Cutwey, vice-president; Kathleen Davis, secretary; Sheila Sprowls, treasurer; Mr. Donald Cousineau, advisor Now we were wise end experienced sophomore In addition to our demanding school studies, we realized we would have to begin raising money in earnest if we wished a senior trip to materialize We hustled all yeer selling candy and ice cream at football, baseball, and basketball games. Our advisor occasionally wondered of we were eating the profits ourselves as our financial balance at the end of the year was not what we had anticipated. A picnic at Lazy River in June terminated our activities for the sophomore year. Officers for the yeer were: Judy Ketcham, president; Lenore Flynn, vice-president; Kathleen Davis, secretary; Mary Witherell, treasurer; Mr. Cousineau, advisor. Our junior year was packed with busy ictivities of all kinds. First of ell, we selected our high school rings! Every member of the class badgered our long-suffering secretary until the rings arrived, and then we proudly strutted throughout the halls with our hands held aloft so that everyone could admire the gleaming circlets of gold. We again sold candy at basketball games, conducted many successful food sales, and worked like beavers to raise money through community suppers. In May, our fabulous Junior Prom took place. To carry out the theme, How Deep Is the Ocean , we painted fantastic and colorful denizens of the sea on large well murals. The enchanting evening was climaxed by the crowning of Roger Ferris and Carol Browning as King and Queen of the prom. Our class officers were: Nora Sauter, president; Kathleen bsvis, vice-president; Rita Smithers, secretary; Kathleen Havens, treasurer; Mrs. Kuchler and Mr. Russell, advisors. Exciting end rewarding experiences filled our days as seniors. Senior officers elected were: Kathleen Davis, president; Bernsrd Finley, vice-president; Sheila Sprowls, secretary; Kathleen Havens, treasurer; Mr. Cousineau end Mrs. Kuchler, advisors. Our biggest task of the year was the publishing of The Heuveltonian , the school yearbook. With Mrs. Hendee as advisor, we labored long and hard, and we finally sent the completed pages to the publisher. The annuel Winter Carnival, held in February, was a mammoth success. Why, we even managed to secure two television per- sonalities to crown Queen Judy Ketcham and King Bernard Finley! With these activities completed, we began preparations for our trip to Washington, D. C., during our Easter vaca- tion. A tour of the Supreme Court, Senate, end House of Representatives filled us with respect for our government officials. Visits to the Mellon Art Gallery, Smithsonian Insti- tute, and Museum of Natural History made us more deeply appreciative of our culture and heritage. June 23 and graduation day at lest ar- rived! Although we were anxious to begin new experiences, we all realized that the four challenging end rewarding yesrs spent at the Heuvelton Central School will be remembered and cherished by all of us. jllflllUUl MU, II 1 I IV' (Elas0 ijtetarg

How important we felt the day the rings ar- rived and the whole school ad- mired our choice! To raise enough money for our class projects, we scur- ried around town selling greeting cards and novelties. In May, the annual Junior Prom took place. Our theme, Blue Hawaii was beautifully exe- cuted, and the entire student body complimented us. In a more serious vein, we all began contemplating our future careers, and many of us made what may prove to be the most important deci- sions of our lives. It was truly a momentous year! Row 1: A.
