Rehearsals for thirty eight members in chorus found us enthusiastic to work on music for our spring concert and music festival. Four mem- bers were chosen by Mr. Barone, our director, to attend state sectionals at Potsdam. Mem- bers of the chorus assisted the music depart- ment in a fund raising campaign. Both chorus and band members have sold refreshments at games and dances to help swell the fund for band uniforms. Instructions and auditions are now given to all students who show interest and talent. Once in chorus members settle down to a routine of two weekly rehearsals during activity period. The fall of '53 found L43 band members happily using the facilities of our new music depart- ment. Rehearsals in the auditorium, practice rooms and storage space for instruments are improvements over last years quarters. New uniforms and more instruments now became our goal. A mile of pennies drive, supported well by the townspeople, netted over six hundred dollars and assured us of the uniforms. Cer- tain members of our band went to the tryouts for all state band and one member played in the state sectionals at Potsdam. The continu- ing grouth of the music department under Mr. Barone is very gratifying. 27
