Shortly after his parents received the notice of his death, this poem arrived. It was written by one of the men who served with him at the time of his death. Seven fleeting months! That's all the time they gave you, lady Seven precious months from out your 21 bright years, Seven months that found you in the garb of battle cladg Seven months of marching, drills and blood and sweat and tears. Seven months from Heuvelton to some- thing called Pau-golg Seven months from a peaceful town to a bitter rendezvous: Seven months to train and fight and answer Freedom's cally Seven months of sacrifice for what was right and true. Seven winging months! That's all the time it took you, lad, To brave Korea's seething hell and find your Destinyg Seven months of hopes and fears and giving all you had To break a tyrant's greedy grip and set a country free. Seven months: And now you sleep in your own native land, Private, First Class Breckenridge- such was the rank you had: But seven centuries from now when heroes' deeds are scanned You'll rank not only first class but among the highest, lad. Sentinel My Base- : ball 2,3,h: 8 68.6188 LUOQVCQZPQ9 At last the day arrived, it was a day we had been looking forward to when, with high spirits, hav- ing passed our 8th grade regents, our class of 21 students entered high school life as freshmen. Under the leadership of our president, Ronald Backus, and our advisor, Mrs. Powell, our year passed very quickly, highlighted by a date outing at nLazy Rivern. We were sorry to see our principal, Mr. Thompson, leave for Aruba, South America, but we wished him all the luck in the world. Suddenly we found ourselves Sophomores. The year meant hard work for us llin in creditsi-1 , P 8 and building marks, so we found little time for activities. with Fred Ashworth as president, we started building our treasury by having a food sale. The top thing that year took place when, on March 22, 1952, the ceremony was held for the ground breaking of our new school. we looked on in the hope that we would be the first class to graduate from the long- awaited new building. Everyone was proud to be a Junior. Our class, having decreased to 16, found a very busy year as upper class- men. We had many activies among which were: parties, a food sale, our winter Wonderland Ball, and our annual Junior Prom. To the strains of our beautiful theme, 'Some Enchanted Eveningn we crowned Carolyn Todd, our Queen, and Charles Madill,-our King. Before long we were proudly wearing our Junior rings. This year, as Mr. Barone ad- mits, certainly kept him very busy as our advisor. Now that we are Seniors, we have many wonderful things to look back on and many great things to look forward to. It was a wonderful day in Sept. when we proudly walked into the new School. It was a our class, the Heuvelton Central thrill to know that Class of '5h, would be the first sen- ior class to attend the school. we quickly chose our Ashworth, Ronald officers: Fred Havens, Ronald Backus, Mary Link, and our advisor, Mrs. Armstrong, in preparation for a busy year. The theme 'Let Music Ringn filled the bright pages of our yearbook, and our annual play, 'Seventeenth Summern was a grand suc- cess with everyone proud of our fine cast. we were proud to crown Ronald Backus and Julie Austin King and Queen of our Harvest Ball. Our money making activities kept us all hopping and kept our yearbook above water. with all this to look back on, is it a wonder that as we prepare to climb the stage to receive our dip- lomas, many of us can not help look- ing back on high school with misty eyes? It is with deep appreciation, that we give our thanks and best wishes to all who in any way have helped us, the Class of vgh, .,,ii ii- 1-v 1 . . 29088 JQSKCEBV JZWQAQVJS FRONT: Parish, Kelly, Bishop, Curry, Simmons, Goulden, Sheppard, faEe. Rehearsals for thirty eight members in chorus found us enthusiastic to work on music for our spring concert and music festival. Four mem- bers were chosen by Mr. Barone, our director, to attend state sectionals at Potsdam. Mem- bers of the chorus assisted the music depart- ment in a fund raising campaign. Both chorus and band members have sold refreshments at games and dances to help swell the fund for band uniforms. Instructions and auditions are now given to all students who show interest and talent. Once in chorus members settle down to a routine of two weekly rehearsals during activity period. Our public appearan- ces are the culmination of many hours of work, and each year brings progress. 26 THIS PAGE IS SPONSORED BY JOHN B. SEXTON CO.. WHOLESALE GROCERS 6216.551 6112929 H.C.S. Rehearsals in the auditorium, practice rooms and storage space for instruments are improvements over last years quarters. New uniforms and more instruments now became our goal. A mile of pennies drive, supported well by the townspeople, netted over six hundred dollars and assured us of the uniforms. Cer- tain members of our band went to the tryouts for all state band and one member played in the state sectionals at Potsdam. The continu- ing grouth of the music department under Mr. Barone is very gratifying. 27 DUGDDUGDZF S QQJQCFW Henry, Backus, Hynes, Sovie, Ashworth, Chambers, Macaulay, Courtney, Goulden. C.
