l3 Q The theme of THE 1953 HEUVELTONIAN is Between the Bookends. As there are books of adventure and memorable experiences between any bookends, so our yearbook deals with the adventures and memor- able experiences of our daily life during the past year in the Heuvelton Central School. We, the Senior Class of 1953 sincerely hope that this book will bring back many pleasant memories of the happy days spent at Heuvelton Central School. For the past five years, he has shown a kind understanding of all our personal problems, large or small. His friendliness, stimulating personality, and sound advice will always be remembered. These books will always remind us of the friendships, fun, and experiences we have had. Even as we leave to prepare for the future, we shall remember the compan- ionship and enjoyment of the past years. The first volume we remove from the bookends pictures six- teen happy and proud freshmen. We spent most of the year trying to adjust ourselves to the routine of high school. Our first class par- ty and sleigh ride were exciting and loads of fun. Our sophomore year is described in the second volume between the bookends. All of us began taking part in extra-curricular activities. We started our social activi- ties with a rollicking sleigh ride in De- cember. The wonderful year came to a close with a picnic at Lazy River. The third book between the bookends is crowded with activities as juniors. Our first project was selecting and ordering our school rings. We 3 could hardly wait for them. When we finally received them we wore them proudly and joyous- ly. Our big social event of the year was the Junior Prom. We dec- orated the Town Hall with spring flowers, balloons, gay lights, and an old-fashioned lawn swing. The theme, The Loveliest Night of the year be- came a reality for us. Prances Todd was a beautiful titian-haired Queen of the Prom, and Fairbaim Ashworth, a handsome King. Our last year is por- trayed in the fourth volume between the book- ends . We worked hard and played hard. First of all, we published THE 19$3 HEUVELTONIAN. Our senior play, MEET CORLISS ARCHER, was an enormous success. Helen Childs as snoopy Aunt Agnes, Gail Matthews as Corliss, and Ray Countryman as Dexter brought down the house. Finally, we began preparations for our graduation. Nre ordered our caps and gowns, sent out our invitations, and marched down to the platform to receive our long- awaited diplomas. We were proud to graduate from our alma mater; yet we were sad to leave the school where we had spent four happy years. Our memories of the Heuvelton Central School will always be cherished. 10 Row 1 Row 2 Mary Link, Mary Ann Hard!, Esther Henry, Mildred Pinkerton, Loris Grenier, Jack Courtney, Betty Matthews, Barbara Fuller, Frederic i-' James Standing - Frank Smithers, Ronald Backus, Ronald Haven, Julia Austin, Petty Denny.
