Before a student has been at Hesston more than a day, he becomes aware of a very alive organization-the Young Peoples Christian Association. Applause is heard in the dining hall, accompanied later by much laughter and talking. It is the first night of school and the entire student body has gathered for the annual Get-Acquainted Social. This, and the many other parties and socials that follow throughout the s.chool term, are sponsored by the Social group. Savory odors come from college kitchen. Investigation reveals a merry group of students baking cookies and stirring up fudge to be sent to make children's hearts glad on Christmas day. It is the work of the Emergency Service group. Some Saturday you might find them headed for the Relief clothing depot in Newton. Scattered over the campus are workers, busy with bushel baskets., gathering un- sightly trash. Of course they must belong to the Campus Improvemnt group, an- other division of our Y. ' We quietly slip into the back row of chapel hall. We realize that the well- planned program is the product of our capable Religious Meetings group. Wednes- day devotional, Christian Workers Band, and Saturday evening prayer meetings are all planned by this same group. On Saturday morning we hear the patter of tiny feet on the stairway and childish voices calling to each other. The Community Welfare group is conducting another of its regular 'tN.B.C, meetings. By the happy smiles on the faces of the youngsters we know that the Neighborhood Bible Club is certainly being enjoyed. And now at last we are eager to see the work of the group which perhaps comes the closest of any to the true aim of our HY. It is the Exiension group that is responsible for active mission work. On a Sunday evening you will see students piling into the old Y Chevrolet with a stack of songbooks, eager to carry on the work of a Negro Sunday School. On Sunday afternoon you might find a similar group singing at the hospital in Newton or conducting a service at the Old People's Home. Young people like to serve, and it has been the aim of the Y.P.C.A. to give opportunities to all who desire. lts organization touches nearly every phase of school life. The students support it whole-heartedly. In this year's drive we went way over the top with the sum of 51,057 to carry on the work of the organization.
