I-Ie maketh me to lie down in green- pastures: I-Ie leadeth me beside the still waters. I-Ie restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I 'Walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with meg thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou prepar- est a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou annointest my head with oil: my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. -- Psalm 23 mntered as second class matter May 14, 1914, at the post office at Hesston, Kansas, under the Act of March 3, 1879. I What a class! Only eight enrolled in the Bible Department? They Won't be able to do anything! These were some remarks heard at the beginning of the school year, regarding our class. But now! Well, we've been busy and have had a full, happy year. , I What have we accomplished? In tangible things there is very little to be seen. Because of traveling conditions we had very few opportuni- ties for service outside of the school. But here we have been busily engaged in those little tasks which some one needed to do. - l Our primary objective was to serve through the Ministry of Prayer. The one hour a week set aside for a period of prayeriwas a great inspiration to all of us. How much good has done been because of these prayers? We can't tell, but we know many of the petitions have been answered and souls have been saved. i The person taking the College Bible Course is rewarded iwith Abundant Riches. We came from Christian homes and Sunday schools thinking we had quite a thorough knowledge of the Bible, yet eager to learn more. We have spent many hours delving into Old Testament History and Old Testament Prophets. We lived again in Palestine when our Lord was on earth, listening to His teachings, and seeing the many wonderful works which He performed. We traveled with Paul for many miles, establishing churches, and enduring persecution and hardships. T Did we know it all? Oh, no! And even though we have dug deeply We have only skimmed the wealth contained in God's Word. i We have also enjoyed classes in Christian Education, Evangelism, Child Study, Psychology, Ethics, Sociology, Public Speaking, Introduc- tion bo Christianity, Bible Doctrines, and others. The world needs the services of Christian young people. Hesston College has provided this course to train us for more efficient service. Accepting the challenge and ideals which have been given to us, vwe are. determined to give our best in His service. CGLLEGE BIBL Iola Slatter A. A. I-lesston would have been a place with far less talented people, if it had not been fo our large class of Jolly Juniors this jrcar. Everywhere we find Qur fellow Juniors represented in school activities. The Junior boys are especially noted for their athletic ability. They won the softball tournament and made a good showing in the basketball tournament. We have 'never-to-be-forgotten memories of happy times spent together- of the picnic at the grove-the truck ride on the class outing- the Snacki Shop with cherry pie a la mode, chocolate sundaes, hot dogs, toasted cheeseisand- Wiches, and all the rest of the goodies-the Junior-Senior banquet-thosef class meetings. W , After another year of training at I-Iesston, we feel that we shall be fitted for better service to God and to our fellowmen. Academy luniors 1 Almost twenty-one months ago was founded upon the campus of Hesston College and Bible School the Class of '45. Our class is small but we've decided that number isn't all and have made our motto, Small but Mighty. We are represented in a number of clubs, societies, and choruses. We have also taken active part in committees and other activities. For a short time last fall we were sheep without a shepherd because of Mr. Duerkson's accepting the call to be a camp director in Virginia. Miss Nitzsche very ably fills the vacancy as our sponsor. We enjoyed several class get-to-gethers, among which were our all day outing at Continental Park and our evening devotions which were uplifting to all of us. We are looking forward to another year of Spiritual, Mental, and Social blessing at our Alma Mater. . Miss Bertha Nitzsche, Sponsor Row 1. Howard Hershberger, Pres., Rachel Driver, V. V We Academy Freshmen have enjoyed immensely our first year at Hesston College and Bible School. The time was taken up by studying, the traditional class outing at Harvey County, Park, parties in the Industrial Arts Shop, special tables in the dining hall-all this, and more. - Our class is represented in Expression Club, Audubon Society, Home Economics Club, Ladies' and Men's Choruses, and the Literary Societies. A few of our number had to leave at the end of the first semester and during the second semester, but this was partly made up by the new members Special Bible Term brought us. I This year has meant a great deal to all of us. We will strive to make next year mean even more. ' NTEB BIBLE TERM CLASS PREAMBLE VVe, the Special Bible Termers of I-lesston College and Bible School, in order to form a more perfect knowledge of the Bible, establish ourselves in the faith, insure the continuance of the Christian principles of our church, provide for social development, promote friendships, and secure 'the blessing of God upon ourselves and our fellow students, did come and attend this Bible Term for Christian young people everywhere. The Special Bible Term Class was composed of fifty-one students repre- senting ten states. Our instructors were Brother Jess Kauffman of Hesston, Kansas, and Borther Edward Diener of Wellman, Iowa. Many enjoyable hours were spent in Bible study with our instructors assisted by several of the regular faculty members. IN His STEPS During this time we were blessed with services such as prayer meetings, chapel services, minister's conference, and the revival meetings which were conducted by Brother John R. Mumaw of Harrisonburg, Virginia. The class organized a literary group which met once a Week to entertain and educate with interesting programs. The Mixed Chorus was directed by Brother I. Mark Ross. The Chorus sang at several social gatherings and at our commencement program, February 5. These six weeks of fellowship, Bible study, and inspiration have meant much to us. Cabinet assembled in the Lecture room immediately following Thursday evening devotion. The meeting opened with the singing of HThank You, Lordu, after which our Sponsor, Brother M. A. Yoder, led in prayer. Committee Reports: RELIGIOUS - Getting variety into the Thursday evening devotional programs has been a problem, which presented a challenge. The results were gratifying. There was some discussion relative to the value of the Quiet Period, which is suppose to be from 7:00 to 7:15 each morning. SOCIAL - That even students at H. C. B. S. need to be made con- scious of the rules of Christian Courtesy has resulted in plans for a Courtesy Week. EXTENSION - The Y. P. C. A. has a car now. Rules and regulations in regard to its use were drawn up by a special committee and presented to the Cabinet. After considerable discussion the motion to accept them carried unanimously. EMPLOYMENT - Girls have been going on Saturday to different homes to help without pay. It was suggested that students be made to feel more responsible for appearance of the campus. FINANCE - The drive was a marvelous success. Part of the 3369.45 surplus was divided among the various items on the 1943-'44 Budget. Motion: That the remainder of the surplus be reserved for the use of next year's Cabinet. Carried. TRACT - Tracts and tract Envelopes were placed in the holders for students to distribute during the holidays. Tracts were sent to several different mission stations each month. MEMBERSHIP - One hundred and twenty-eight names of students were presented for membership in the Y. P. C. A. A membership card was issued to each one. Following these reports the remaining time was spent in prayer, Respectfully Submitted, Secretary 1 0 W MEN'S AND LADIES' CHGRUSES Back Row: Alice Buckwalter, Joan Weaver, Kathleen Erb, Carol' Ely, Helen Shetler, Mary E.
