Huskies Keep Spirit Up Through Tough Season The 1981-82 Varsity Basketball Team, coached by john Lucas and Barry Elison, went against very tough competition this season, including two conference opponents that later qualified for State Supersec- tionals. The Huskies finished eleventh in the MSL Conference with four wins and ten losses. Their record doesn't really reflect how the the boys played. The Huskies displayed good talent and never gave up. They always came back strong in the second half and put up a good fight till the final buzzer. Several of their losses were lost by onlya few points. The highlight of the season came when Hersey won the Glenbrook South Thanksgiving Tourna- ment. The Huskies started the tournament by de- feating Glenbrook South. They lost the next game to Stevenson but came back strong to beat Deerfield and win the tournament. The Huskies improved their record by winning both of their cross-over games against Conant and Rolling Meadows. The team was led by seniors Dan Boyan, Dave Koziol, john Lisafeld, john Novak, and Dean Quar- ino. The team elected Dean Quarino as the Most Valuable Player and john Lisafeld as the Most lm- proved Player. john Novak, who led the league in free-throw accuracy with 97.4'Mn, became the first player to receive the jim Thomas Sportmanship Award. This award is given to the senior member of the team who displays good sportmanship, gives support to his teammates, and is a good representa- tive of the school. The Huskies ended their season in the first round of the state playoffs by losing a close and hard- fought game to St. Viator.
