Girls Gymnastics Team Captures nd In State Wendy Specht Wins All-Around State Championship! This is it was an appropriate motto for the 1981- 82 Girls Gymnastics Team. Coached by Linda Feiza, Cindy Manning, and Holly Wright, the team proved to be outstanding throughout the entire season, and they ultimately placed 2nd in the state. The unde- feated record of 9-0 reflected the success each girl strived to achieve. First place in Conference, Dis- tricts, and Sectionals was siezed by the Huskies. Captains Wendy Specht and joan Spiel paced the way for the winning trend. junior Wendy Specht's electrifying performances enabled her to become the 1982 All-Around State Champion. In the state meet, she finished 1st on floor exercise, 4th on bars, and 6th in vault. In addition, she helped the team by acquiring high scores and by taking 1st on floor in Conference, 3rd in all-around in Districts, and 2nd on floor and in all-around during Sectionals. Senior joan Spiel added to the team's success. In Conference, she took 2nd on floor and in Districts she obtained 5th in all-around. In Sectionals she at- tained 3rd place on beam. Other state competitors were Sue Carey, Sue Konrad, jackie Purcell, and Becky Schram. Coaches noted sophomores Becky Schram and Sue Konrad as the most improved gymnasts. Alternate gymnasts were janene Richardson, Cindy Anderson, and Mary Muno. Both the Freshman and junior Varsity teams were undefeated and also won the Conference title. This definitely indicates a promising future for the up- coming varsity teams. Coach Feiza commented, During practices, al- most everyone had the aches and pains, but when meets arrived, everyone performed to their best ability. The overwhelming support from the stu- dent body was greatly appreciated by both coaches and the team. The coaches would like to express their gratitude to all the members, especially the seniors, who showed perserverance by being a member of the team for four years. by Joanne Griffin and Nancy Barfield LL A DDUND The picture says it all!
