Girls' Tennis Sends O'Neil Downstate The 1981 Girls' Tennis Team, consisting of 4 sen- iors and 7 juniors, struggled through the season with an 8- 12 record. Coach Nancy Holmgren commented that the 7juniors played most of their season under pressure because they were not use to the tough competition. Many girls were also put in positions they were inexperienced in, but none-theless each gave 100W at each match. Coach Holmgren also added that much was learned during the season and the girls were a fun group to work with. Two standouts on the team were Licia O'Neilat 1st singles, and Michelle De Latour at 3rd singles. Each girl hada 10-8 record for the season. Licia fought her way to state. There she won her 1st match, but after her next two grueling games she lost to a girl seeded in the top sixteen. Michelle volleyed her way to a victory for her 1st match in conference, but then lost to her next opponent. All in all, the team had a rewarding season. Coach Holmgren is optimistic, and is already predicting a good and skillful season for 1982. by Aubrey Piech julie, Nanci, janet and Sue get into some heavy strumming.
