Football Shows Strength In 6-3 Season The 1981 Hersey football team, coached by joe Gliwa, had a rough 6-3 season which was good enough for second in the MSL North. Only two very close losses kept them from the playoffs. One loss was to Wheeling in an offensive showdown 39-33 and the other to Fremd in a 79- 16 overtime game. The Huskies led the league in scoring with 21.8 points per game. We had a very explosive offensive team , stated Coach Gliwa. Hersey sent four players to the All-Conference team. They were Dave K oziol, jim Mueller, Bob Connor andjim Limperis. jim Limperis was voted by his teammates as the M. V.P. and was also selected for the All-Area team. Mark Kovack was voted the Most Improved Player. This season was marred by the death of a starting linebacker, Kurt Thyreen. He was a great athlete and scholar. The feelings of the team were best summed up by Coach joe Gliwa when he said, Kurt is now playing for a new team and a new coach. Kurt will be remembered by all. by Bill Oakley Dave K oziol finds a lot of time to hit a receiver. ,L .M .1 fa - Chris Fish puts a move on these defenders junior Dan Peterson moves around end. jim Limperis is going to let this one fly. The cheerleaders and Nanook show togetherness. Pam Toborg cheers her team on. Cindy Link leads the squad in a cheer. Cheerleaders Keep Team 's Spirit Up The cheerleaders for the 7981 Varsity Soccer Team once again did an outstanding job. They kept the team's spirit going throughout the entire season by doing much more than cheering at every game. They psyched up the players before important games by baking for them and by decorating their houses. The squad elected jennie Eck as Captain and Lau- rie Huntzinger as co-captain. The rest of the squad Lisa Campobasso, Anna Liebig, Cindy Link, Deanne Pruyn, Dawn Scharli and Pam Toborg cooperated well with their captains. With the help of their spon- sor Mrs. Spenks, they made up one of the most enthusiastic squads in the history of Hersey Soccer. by Tony Frankievvicz Lisa Campobasso and Anna Liebig are proud of their team. Dawn Scharf and jennie Eck keep their spirit going even in the coldest weather.
