Hard Work Pays Off For Girls X-Country! Running to one's fullest potential was the goal of the 1981 Girls Cross Country Team. Cross Country is an outdoor sport consisting of 2 mile races. Training begins in a summer cross coun- try program and continues all through the fall sea- son. Practices average 6 to 8 miles of running a day. The team is coached by Greg Fedyski, a Math teach- er at MacArthur lr. High School. The season started off Well by winning the LV Invitational, where freshman Maureen Lynch tied Maine West's school course record. Maureen was also chosen as Most Valuable Player of the team. The team looked promising as the season began, but due to problems, only 11 girls remained in the end. They included 6 seniors, 2 juniors, 1 sopho- more and 2 freshmen. Despite the small team, the Huskies pulled through with a 3-3 record. Coach Fedyski noted how he enjoyed Working with the girls this year, especially because of the team 's positive attitude. Girls' Swimming Sends wo Downstate! The 1981-82 Girls'Swim Team brought to life their goals for this year's season. Finishing with a record of 6-4 and sending four swimmers downstate made the season a successful one. Senior Kelly Davis went downstate in the 700 yd. butterfly and Kristen Davis, a freshmen, competed in the 50 yd. freestyle. The girls' medley relay, consist- ing of Kristen Davis, jane Gotham, Kelly Davis, and Kelly Lynch, also qualified for the state meet. Their conference record was 3-3 with one of the high points of the season being a win over Fremd coming down to the last event. This year's Most Valuable Player award went to Kelly Davis and to Annette K jeldbjerg went the Most Improved award. The team put in hard workouts from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. every afternoon and from 5:30 to 6:30 a.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The team was coached by Mr. Dan Young and Mr. Tim Kasper. by john Griffin Amy Behnke displays excellent form. Tammy Stephenson flies through the air with the greatest of ease. GIRLS' SWIM TEAM.
