198 1 Girls Track Team Sends One Downstate The 1981 Girls Track Team proved to be successful and promising. The team's Conference record was 5-6 against tough competitors. About mid-season, the Huskies acquired 1st place in the Maine North Invitational. Among the outstanding girls was Carolyn Pas- terski, who captured 1st in Conference, 2nd in Dis- tricts, competed downstate and finished 11th - all in the shotput event. Districts proved to be a rewarding meet. jackie Purcell broke the school record jumping 5 '3 in high jump, placing 4th, Shelley Brodeur secured 5th place in long jump. In the 440 yd. open julie joy placed 5th. Monica Wendell took 5th in the 200 meter hurdles, and 6th place for the 100 yd. dash went to Annette Kjeldbjerg. At the end of the season, the freshmen placed 2nd in the Wheeling Freshmen Invitational. This, along with the returning talent, shows definite potential for next year's team, stated Head Coach Terri Swan- son. Boys' Tennis Team Battles In Tough Conference The 1981 Boy's Tennis Team had a disappointing season and fell short of their 5th place or better goal. The team finished 10th in a tough conference with a 3-8 dual meet record. In the Niles West Invitational, the Huskies finished 3rd in a field of 10 teams, and in the Main West Quad they finished 2nd, In the conference meet, the Her- sey Tennis Team finished 9th with everyone on the team winning at least one match, and most winning two or more. Despite their record the players practiced with intensity and dedication under the leadership of Mr. Jorgensen in his first Varsity coaching season. One player who had a good season was sophomore lay Woldenberg with an accumulative record of 12-6. by john De Waal N Kee Sohn brings down a high shot from his opponent.
